How bad Are Creative soundcards

For the record: I used the SB AWE64 for a long time without problems.
Interesting quote found on comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard.tech;
======snip======
The Live! has some very real problems that I've now received confirmation from our own corporate test lab and additional sources ......
The Live! line has a faulty ACPI header in hardware. This causes resource allocation problems on ACPI systems (Windows Me, Windows 2000) which can result in system lockups and data corruption. The problem shows up more in faster systems running Via KT133A, intel i815 and intel i850 chipsets (no, it's not limited to Via chipsets). Creative Labs will not fix the problem. We have now listed this card as a non-starter for corporate purchases.
When you add up to the inferior sound quality the card produces, that makes it a "must avoid" type of buy.
======snip======
The obvious question is; if ACPI is turned on in the BIOS (as it usually is by default) will other OS's also show problems? ACPI has been in BIOS's since before WinME/2K...

My SBLive had the occassional hiccups even with ACPI disabled, but still only in Win2k (and regardless of the chipset, it was seated in an Intel BX, a VIA KT133 and a VIA KT266 board). Those stutters could nearly totally be eliminated by using the Win2k drivers for the card (and not using LiveWare or any creative drivers at all) which really does make it seem a software problem rather than a hardware issue.

My Live is my key reason for not upgrading to W2K yet. I use 98SE for my frivolous stuff, and Linux when I need a real, stable OS.Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Here's another snipet from Hauppauge...
If you get bad horizontal lines (with movement) when used with the Soundblaster Live Player 5.1., enable 'Delay Transaction' in the BIOS or using another soundcard will eliminate the line problem."Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." -- Dr. Seuss

Yup to get the best display out of the wintv on my Abit you've got to alter the settings which sblive likes to what it doesn't like. By messing around you do get the comprimise. You also have to re-install directx 8 as this time when you update the drivers for the wintv.
