Same here, just plug it in while leaving/setting all slotket features to auto. If it doesn't work the first time, set the slotket to use 100MHz FSB and CuMine settings.

I didn't try a voltage setting on my slotket though. As my mobo regulates it by itself. Does your rev 1.10 mobo have the option to go to 133MHz or higher, btw? If so, you might even be able to OC the CPU.

        It did not work...

there are no settings i can do on the slot key... just plug the CPU and stick it into the MOBO !

My MOBO [P2B] can only support upto 112MHZ on the settings.

        Now according to this :http://www.ctechnet.com/hardware/asus.htm#41200

I should be able to get it to run normally ! The only doubt i have is that it could be the voltage issue... since i can't seem to be able to change the voltage on it [thhere are not jumpers on the slot key as u will see in the following image:

what shall i do now ?

Try it. If it doesn't work again, too bad
Is your slotkey/slotket the Asus one? In that case you don't need to check voltages and speed. It will adapt as far as I know.

You left your P2-400 at the 7x5 100FSB and it worked? If you ad addiional cooling it might work all that time. It still won't do the extra SIMD commands a P3 does, but hey, your CPU is a lot faster

              try what ?

what excatly should i try ?

Also, do you think i need to

              1. change the jumper settings on the MOBO the multiplier settings i now set it to 8.0X ? could smaller values work ?

              2. upgrade the Bios to 1.14 beta 1 ?

              3. change the jumpers on MOBO to reflect the change in bus speed, even though the settings can only go as far as 112MHZ !

              thanx for ur support

Okay, running a CPU without cooling is NOT an option. You may have already fried the CPU.

                    not even a second !

the machine never booted in the first place ! It never ran without a fan... i just thought if it boots for 2 secs i would switch off and stick the fan on, which right now does not fit very well with the slotkey handle coming in the way of the base of the heatsink!

Any ideas for starting this machine up ?

Sorry for not answering sooner, but a thunderstorm caught us and it threw golfball sized hail at us, through open doors and windows, which we wanted to conquer before it melted

I'm answering inbetween thunderstorms mind you. I'll be off again in a moment

Can you show us a picture of your fan? If it has 4 pins sticking out on the backside it's incompatible. If it's a P2 fan, it's incompatible. Even a Pentium/486 fan is incompatible.

You need a fan like mine, Pent-Alpha to cool an FC-PGA type of CPU.

It doesn't have to have booted. If the CPU got power, that's enough.

it looks pretty much the same!

I can take a picture for u if u want... now the question could the machine not boot because the fan is not mounted on the CPU ???? as i said earliere, i tried to connect the fan to the power on the MOBO where it is supposed to be plugged in and it did not spin, nor did the slot1 PIII750 fan, but my PII 400 does ...

I really need to sort this issue out soon ! I have work and i can't get to it unless i resolve the matter - i am one of those stubborn people !

Dizzy, if the fan does not spin, try giving it a whirl with a finger. If it doesn't keep it's speed, try connecting it to other fan point, next to the RAM slots. If it doesn't work then either, check your Power Supply. Is it over 235 Watt or not?

If it isn't, may we know how many cards you have in your PC? Besides your G400 ofcourse
