What the holy hell is up with that theme music? Jeeze, was it composed by bryan adams or something? Damn...

Other than that, not a half bad first episode

I guess its o.k. to talk about it since the West Coasters are busying watching it as we speak ...

Is the Vulcan science officer, T'Pol, who I think it is? Doesn't T'Pol become the grand Empress (or whatever her title) of the Vulcans?

you see disturbing things you never see broadcast on the networks.
Like when NASA was knocking >1 meter icicles off of Challanger 30 minutes prior to liftoff.

BUD's were very popular until the cable networks declared the skies went dark back in '86. Then the entire home satelite industry came to a screaming halt. That BS damage took the entire industy several years to recover from.

What do you mean by this? Dark?

I love having the NASA channel. Its so cool to see whats going on up there 24x7.

In the fall of '85, HBO (and the like) started announcing that they were going to scramble their feeds for the first time using DSS encryption standard and notifing all that "the skies were going dark" shortly due to this. That winter ('86) when they did encrypt, led many onwers became so paranoid about their (substantial) investment of what now appeared to be obsolete equipement, that they and those who were considering purchase of a BUD stopped purchasing. This caused a catastropic crash of the entire home sat. industry.

Of course this was incorrect, but since it was awhile before most manufactures had a decoder ready reciever and or those that did were prohibitively expensive to most potential buyers. Not only that, but even if you did own a decoder equiped system, you were forced to make your HBO (and the like) payments to your local cable company and that was the biggest WHY the majority of dish owners purchased there own equipement in the first place... because cable operators were charging entirely too much for little service (programming). Not only that but the subscriptions to programming like HBO were twice what the cable comapny charged their regular customers! All of us were up in arms over that ordeal.

I know I'm not the only person that lost major $$$ because of their F*cked in the head, lets get even with those lame azzed leachers, BS mentality of the day.

              Ok back on topic.

Loved the pilot. However... there were MAJOR plot holes.

              1. When, partway through the first season of the classic Trek, Kirk and Spock meet Klingons... they are SERIOUSLY CONFUSED. They've NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE, or EVEN HEARD OF THEM. Yet we're supposed to believe that the maiden flight of the first Enterprise was over a Klingon? Hmm, lemme think.

              2. For a buncha people "receiving commands from the distant future", the shadowy figure in the holo-beam looked and sounded a LOT like the Vulcan ambASSador. (bolding of ASS is all mine, heehee!)

              3. He's running, being fired at, inside a magnetically shielded ship with LOADS of interference around, but they teleport him out? This would have made Geordi astonishingly proud. Will miracles never cease?

Otherwise, loved it. Not 100% sure about the chick playing T'Pol. She seems less "logical" and more "frigid". In fact, the Vulcans in general seemed pretty emotional to me. Oh, well.

I'm the least you could do, oh yeah
If only life were as easy as you
              I would still get screwed

Vulcans over time have always seemed more repressed than emotionless to me. If memory serves Sarak was quite often rather stubborn in his disapproval of Spock joining Starfleet.

As far as T'Pol goes; I'd spread some decontamination gel on her anytime

Remember that Vulcans had to discipline their minds to save themselves from self-annihilation. They're fine folks to hang out with now but you still don't want to be near them when its mating season.

And back to the co-topic ... The programming charges sure did drop since those "dark" days! Since then, BUD has been much cheaper than cable and still is higher quality and cheaper than the baby dishes as well as much more flexible. So Mike, I take it you don't currently own a BUD.

                    Puh

IMHO, this thing bombed big time. Besides the inconsistencies Gurm pointed out there were several more holes in it, but i will spare you - and me

                    Regards

PS: i found this captain guy a dud, this self-rightous bravado. Don't get me wrong, nothing against bravado, Kirk was cool in his completely senseless bravado. But senseless is key here. Kirk was shitting on anything, including high command and the whole frickin' human race. You get the picture... and a picture it is.
