UPS came and got it 23/09 and UpS delivered a "new" repaired at 29/10...

(I'm not 100 % shure of the first date, will check tomorow..)

I have only made a Light check to see if anything pops up right at the start.

Running my computer in dos for a day would only give me ulcers...

I wont trust the drive untill a week has gone by....

And untill that time I'l keep the backup I made while restoring the raid on my C drive.

That backup will go onto CD, after a week.

And while I don't think that IBM is stupid enough to send me a second bad drive....

I met the boss for IMB OEM in Sweden at a big OEM meeting in Stockholm and she gave me some names to Contact IF it happened again....

Seems that the suplyer sent me in the wrong direction at the beginning....

But that happens a lot I heard.

Now I only hopes that I can have funn with my computer for the next two months untill moving day.....

When probably all 5 hdd's in my 2 computers will fail.....

Let's do some survey. Where is the manufacturer plant of your IBM harddisk. Mine is from Thailand, yours?

        Hi Folks,

For those that don't know, Storage Review is currently running a
drive reliability survey over at >>

        www.storagereview.com

Just hit the survey link at the very top of the page - you must be
        registered to submit details.

Please enter details for ALL your drives, working & not working,
or the results are going to look a wee bit skewed!

Those that originaly went broken and shipped was from Thailand...

I got two repaired ones, one from Thailand and on from Hungary.

the Thailand was SOA (shit on arival).

And was replaced by a hungaryan...

So now I have as stated erlier two hungarian hxp's in a raid and still no problems... (knock on wood, but not on the hdd's )

Well, I got back my first bad 45 gigger.
They replaced it with a 60 gigger!
              Interesting.
Also, it has a model number I've never seen before.
I've been running it on the DFT "Exerciser" all day.

I wonder if the other drive will match when I get it back.

They don't make 45GB 60gxps. The 75gxp used 15GB platters, and the 60gxp uses 20GB platters. But they don't make a 4 or 5 platter 60gxp, so there's no information yet about what IBM is going to do for people whose 75GB 75gxp fails.

Yup, good call Wombat. 60GXP it is:

                  Model no. : IC35L060AVER07-0

                  Cool.

Yes, Your Honor, I was forced, forced I say, to buy two extra hard drives and worse yet, I had to spend an extra 3 hours on my hobby, and I lost an invaluable copy of the "Monster Truck Madness II" install file.
I can never be made whole by mere money, but, you could try.
                      Umm..... maybe not.

                          Me too

Decided to get a new mobo yesterday and installed a MSI K7T266 Pro2 (VIA KT266A chipset) / Athlon XP1700 combo last night.
Today one of my IBM DTLA-307030 died.
As the drive was very noisy today, I downloaded DFT from IBM and checked both disks (both of the same type).
Primary master was o.k. after running advanced test.
Primary slave reported several bad sectors from the 'Analyzing media' test and suggested to run 'Erase disk to repair the device'.
As I had run a backup (CD) before the install I choose to erase the disk - but Erase failed and said :
"TRC for RMA : 70006AE9", reporting the drive was defective.
I will try to get a new drive from my shop but wonder, why changing the mobo and cpu made this failure come up, or if that happened accidentially?

                          My system now:
                          MSI K7T266 Pro2 , Athlon XP 1700, 2x 256MB Infineon DDR RAM CL2, 1 IBM DTLA-307030, Pioneer DVD115 (Secondary master), Plextor PX-W1210A (secondary slave).
                          OS is Win98SE

                            Hati,
Changing MB shouldn't affect the HD at all, provided you kept the PCI bus speed the same.

One possibility: Over on storagereview there's an emerging theory that the IBM failures are caused by inadequate/marginal power to the HD. Your new MB (more importantly, new CPU), may have taken enough away from your PS that your IBM drive took the hit.

As I do not overclock my system, PCI bus frequency should by o.k. (Still using default BIOS options, not the 'High performance BIOS settings'. My powersupply is 300W and I thought it would be sufficient - the techie at my pc-shop confirmed this. I will talk to him at monday and see if he will replace the HD.
But maybe a more powerfull PS would be a good idea.
                              Thanks
                              Hati

                              Edit:
The PS is a HEC-300-GR. This model is not listed in the 'recommended power supplies' over at AMD.com.
Does anyone else use this type with an AthlonXP?

Wombat, that thoery interests me, I had just installed my ASUS GeForce3 Deluxe into my system the same day that the IBM drive died. I received a Physical Memory Dump error when putting a cd into the machine. upon reboot the IBM was no longer able to be detected in bios. I have a generic 250watt P/S in the system. have already placed an order for an Enermax 450watt P/S as I was thinking the power supply was the culprit as well.
