I really don´t like XP, it´s a dog. I haven´t XPerienced any speed-up compared to my 98se, not even booting.

I´ve found that some hardware, e.g. my external USB modem, doesn´t work (only got w2k drivers), and a lot of software won´t run. And when XP runs into trouble and don´t boot there is no easy way out like the "scanreg /restore" option in 98se from the command prompt. I haven´t been able to restore either manually or automagically to the point where it actually works, so the only option left has been to reinstall from scratch, whereby all settings are lost. With 98se you can reinstall without losing anything, this is not the case with XP - maybe you can and I´m to stupid.

So I´ll stay for now with my 98se, which is very stable (!). Crappy software sometimes **** it up, but that´s easily rectified.

11% slower to me means my long DVD formatted MPEG's end up taking 11 hours instead of 10 and that exporting image sequences of long 3D animations will likewise suffer.

NOT acceptable.

Strange... with a system like yours, you should notice the difference. I don´t give a damn about booting times, that´s a load of marketing crap people try to shove down our throats (although XP is quite fast at that).
As I stated before, on my LOW-END machine, XP performs TWICE as fast as W98 or Millennium. Word XP loads up in 2 seconds. Photoshop 6 loads in 70% of the time it would take in W98/Millennium, as Freehand 9.0 and Illustrator. Internet Explorer loads in half the time. I mean, EVERYTHING is faster and smoother. And I tend to keep my system tidy and optimized (when I had that Millennium crap and now). Even the harddisks are less noisy.
Oh, and it´s way lot more stable (probably the most important thing). Its memory management and hardware detection is light years ahead of W9x/Millennium.

I´m not working for Microsoft, but XP (and W2K) is the OS that has more to offer, no question about that. It´s not even comparable to 98 or Millennium. It´s WAY better, and you don´t have to be a genius to realize that. Of course, there are a few systems in which you can´t see a difference, but that can happen for dozens other reasons.

I run Office2000 Premium on winXP with no problems(yet).

That's good to hear -- about Office2000 being compatible.
I just ordered a new system yesterday and chose XP as the OS, then realized that the $200 Office2000 that I use extensively (for work related stuff) may not be compatible.

My biggest gripe with XP is the fact that the standard interface seems to emulate the mac in many ways...

You search like crazy and dont find it untill third times around...

After spending a halfanhour disabling stuff, tou are still being treated like your not old enough to know what you doing...
"Do you realy want do delete this folder?"
"Are you shure?"
"This might compromise the stability"
(These are roughly translated from swedish and might not be identical to the actual english messages...)


And I still think WPA is just there to make my life harder....

It did not make the pirates life any harder at al.....
