Btw won't running safe mode set alot of things back to default for me?
No, it will allow you to boot into XP with minimal stuff on startup, this will allow you to remove some things that wouldn't be possible while in windows normally. This is useful when you have installed drivers over one-another and wish to clean up.
Well I try to do exactly what you say except windows automatically detects the G400 the second time I reboot and installs the bundled driver for it WITHOUT ASKING ME!!! (GFD POS F***ING WINDOWS CRAP
Anyway I give up, going to buy a geforce 3 ti500 now.. Bye Matrox was fun.
A double click over a HW captured Matrox MJPEG file (even a single click) causes BSOD.
Going via the MP everything is okay, no BSOD.
I don't know why? But I won't change my Marvel G400. Mybe I'll go back to the W98SE/W2K dual boot system. It works well. Just now I am testing XP to try to convince me to go XP.
Avron ... a proper deinstall wouldn't have left any drivers for Windows to find when it detected your Matrox card. Windows would have been forced to ask you for the correct drivers.

Cool, have fun with your new card.
I always enjoy watching people who have no clue try to get hardware running, then end up spending more cash to try to fix their messups.
We've seen this before Matt. He doesn't really want to fix the problem: that would eliminate his justification for buying another card.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.
No clue? Oh bite me ok.. About the uninstall I've done exactly like you said, and no it DOESN'T leave any drivers left, it installs the G400 driver that COMES WITH XP, nothing I can do about that short of finding the files for that driver and delete them. When I uninstall Matrox software and reboot a small tray icon pops up after reboot saying new hardware found, then it continues to run and a few seconds later it has identified the hardware and installs the driver that, again, comes with XP, and without asking me if I want to do it. I'm pretty convinced by now that this is not an installation issue. Might be a conflict with my motherboard/CPU or some other driver I have installed. But I'm not about to reinstall XP just to fix this so I will just leave it be.
About buying another card. Well. G400 MAX isn't cutting it for the games I play(EQ Luclin etc). I can manage but it won't take much for me to buy a card that has the power to run these games. And you have no right to flame me if I want to buy another gfx card that suits MY needs.
If that is why you want another card then say so. Don't mask your inability to install the card with blame for others.
Have a nice day. MURC doesn't need people that have to fall back to "bite me."

I have no problem with installing the card. Oh btw I can play the same mpegs in WinDVD and XP doesn't crash, it does however crash with PowerDVD, and realplayer crashes as well. Suggests to me it's in the driver, not the installation. Oh let me ask you, if I do exactly what you say and follow instructions to uninstall/reinstall the driver, and it still doesn't work, how can you blame it on MY inability?
I'm going to go look around and see if there's an option to disable this automatic driver installation "feature" now.
May be a CPU/MB conflict like I said before.. I run an Athlon 1ghz on a MSI mb.(forgot the model number). Or its just a conflict with another device driver I have.
See, you didn't follow my instructions. I said if that doesn't work post back with some more specific information. But you have already decided you need a different card anyways and cannot be bothered to do the install properly. So that's why I say I give up.
It's not flaming, it's just the facts. There are no issues with the G400 drivers under XP with regards to mpegs in any of the programs you mention. There is a configuration somewhere you have messed up.
