  • ZoneAlarm Pro 3.0 Review!

How does the maker of a favorite free firewall get you to pay $50 for a deluxe new version? By combining industrial-strength hacker-trapping with nifty banner-ad, pop-up, and cookie control, including features that will tempt dial-up modem users as well as the DSL or cable surfers for whom firewalls are critical. Is this upgrade the ultimate Internet protection?

I didn't like Zone alarm 3, i had 2.8 before and i thought it was much better. I don't have a fast system but v2.8 loaded up quite quickly however version 3 took a long time to load, my game pings were real bad and animated gif were no longer animated

ZA 3.0 is a step backwards, in my opinion.

But then again, we all know how I feel about software firewalls.

ZA is pretty decient if all you have is a single PC connected to the net... not good if your sharing the network/internet amoung many machines

What's wrong with ZA when using multiple PC's .... works like a charm !

One of the problems with ZA I have encountered is that it blocks all incoming packets even DNS packets meant for you.
The result was, that the license I got when connecting to my ISP couldn't be renewed when it expired .. typically every 24 hours.
Which resulted in the connection getting .. weird ....after the license expired.
However, once I found out .. I simply made sure that the primary/secondary DNS IP's wasn't blocked anymore.
Since then ... no problems ... the license gets renewed without any problems and the connections keeps on humming.

                  NB ... I'm using a cablemodem.

Zygate .. is pretty neat to ...especially it's remote alert option, however it's NOT as protective as ZA, but close.

For a single computer nothing beats Tiny.
Best protection and a clean interface, not like the candyfied ZA 3.

Kosh how are you able to setup apps to work with ZO (or Sygate) that resides on another machine?

I gotta agree with rubank Tiny is the best, it is called Kerio now, my pings are down in the 20s and 30s but with Zone Alarm I used to get 110, but it could of just been the server. Sygate is decent as well but when i used it my pings keep shooting up down highest it goes is 50 but with Kerio i don't get this.

If I understand you correctly .....

By applying that machines IP into the trusted Zone.
