I have seen two 4,3Gb Fujitsu disks that have broken down lately now! The company I work in also had some problems with them, but not as much problems we had with Western Digital (Caviar)

Another one at work has failed. No wonder they stopped making them they can't.

So far no joy they seem to be ignoring it.
I'll try again tomorrow and then each day for the next week.

                    My fujitsu model is.......

                    mpg3307AT rev 5....

                    think it might fit?

the drive has POS platters but I' really sure the electronics are good.

Must be worth a go - can't exactly make my situation any worse. Replacing the electronics shouldn't be that complicated, and I doubt that the platters would particularly care about the revision of the board.

Even if the resulting drive looks a bit of a monster it should be good enough to get the data off onto somethign a little more stable (damn, that's an IBM drive I@m talking about......).

But I can pick up an 80Gb barracuda for under £100, so I have very little excuse once this years (tiny) payrise comes through.

Still ignoring my emails this tells me never to buy from the company again.

Bloody Hell they replied three times infact. Now the only problem is that they want the orginal reciept of purchase which of course after one and half years I haven't got.

What's the receipt of purchase going to do for them??? Isn't there a 3 year warranty on the drive, as well as a date of manufacture?

Not according to there email there isn't. They just quote a year which puts me outside the period. Unless anyone can show a picture from the UK saying that Fujitsu Ide drives are covered by three year warrenty I'm stuffed.

                              See Below.

The Warranty on Hard Disk products is solely provided to the direct customer of Fujitsu Europe Ltd. Therefore the following rules apply.

If you have purchased your Hard Disk product from a Computer Fair, you will need to return to this supplier for warranty issues. Fujitsu Europe Ltd does not accept any claims for warranty for products purchased via this supply route.

If you have purchased your Hard Disk product from a PC vendor, either directly from the manufacturer or a retailer, your warranty is supported by this supplier. Typically this is for 12 months, however you may have purchased extended warranty, in which case, please return to your place of purchase for warranty support.

If you have purchased your Hard Disk product from a Fujitsu approved dealer or distributor your warranty support will be provided by that company. If however, they have now ceased trading, your warranty may still be supported by Fujitsu Europe Ltd directly. A copy of proof of purchase to our Warranty Service department would be required before your Warranty condition is validated.

                                Curse

Lets hope the drive I'm getting from Tecnoid fixes my problem - cause there's no way I'm ever finding that receipt.

Ah well, slowly we work our way through unreliable Hard Drive retailers. Eventually someone might find a vendor that everyone can agree is great

                                Eventually.
