  • windows 2000 or xp???

    hey there

i have managed to get hold of win 2k and win xp now, and am wondering which one to install on my laptop (p2 300, 192mb pc 66, 10gig hdd) and my home computer (athlon 650, 256mb pc 100, 20gig hdd,and g400max).

which would be best in terms of performance for each, and future compatability and upgrades, bearing in mind that these are not 100% legal (they are a friends). i am wondering about this because i have heard rumors that for win xp windows update will only work on individual key numbers. wat do you guys think???

    cheers

(well what do you know, I'm recommending a Microsoft product... )

I tend to get lost in XP, never can seem to find the settings I need.

For the system specs your mentioning I would go Win2k and anyway I had to put a pre-sp1 patch just to play GTA3... LOL the best ever windows... NOT!!!

Win2k in gaming mode is about 5 maybe 10 FPS slower than WinXP but it has a couple years of tweaking and refinements. Plus your right MS will stop updating WinXP on comprimised keys, if you do go XP try to find a Keygen to creat a non-known comprimised key with it and you will be ok... and if you find a Real Keygen let me know where to look... Beware that the 2 keygens I've found are bullcrap and only display the comprimised keys that have been circulating around since the release.
What was the error? Well its the ID10T error.

                    Windows 2000.
The only thing I have against 2000 is that support for older 9x era games isnt all that good.

I dont know what exactly XP gives you over 2000, apart from extra hassle.

I dont know about XP, but playing Half-Life TFC on 2000 (from vanilla to SP2+) I've noticed very little difference in FPS going from 98SE.

XP is cool!!! I use WIN2K at work and XP at home. I've had no issues with XP not even with my SB Audigy

I have XP set up to look like WIN98 so I don't waste resouces on the fancy 3D desktop. I even upgraded my system - new mobo and processor and just had XP repair itself (No Reactivation) like we all feared.
