Huh???? I think your taking Carmacks statements and twisting them around...there wasn't any comments made about running the Parhelia at low detail..the comments made where this:

    The Matrox Parhelia Report:

The executive summary is that the Parhelia will run Doom, but it is not
performance competitive with Nvidia or ATI.

Driver issue remain, so it is not perfect yet, but I am confident that Matrox
    will resolve them.

The performance was really disappointing for the first 256 bit DDR card. I
tried to set up a "poster child" case that would stress the memory subsystem
above and beyond any driver or triangle level inefficiencies, but I was
unable to get it to ever approach the performance of a GF4.

The basic hardware support is good, with fragment flexibility better than GF4
(but not as good as ATI 8500), but it just doesn't keep up in raw performance.
With a die shrink, this chip could probably be a contender, but there are
probably going to be other chips out by then that will completely eclipse
    this generation of products.
Next up for the ATI 9700 and Doom III...From what I've read the R9700 was running Doom III at Medium settings due to problems with drivers or what not. DOOM III isn't due out till next year anyway and by that time Their should be a R300/NV30 (if its out by then ) refresh and I wouldnt doubt that the Parhelia would be looking at a Refresh also by the end of next year.....
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

I am going to wait for the NV30 and see how the big 3 matches up. At that time the 9700 should be cheaper, but i dun think i will get any ATi because it is ATi (drivers) ... a pet peeve of mine even though i live in the same area as the ATi headquarters (They just built a new complex for their headquarter, which makes me more worried about M) To be honest i won't get anything until 2 years later when AMD gets their Clawhammer to 4000+. By that time i m pretty sure their will be new things, and perhaps M finish debugging a completely new core. Well... looking back, the grapgics industry grows so fast that we were playing Q2 @ 640x480x16-bit 5 yrs ago and today we are playing Doom 3 @ 1600x1200x32-bit (and dun forget it's 10-bit RGB, not 8/8/8/8!), while ppl demands like 9999fps too! (same thing for Super NES to PS2) It's such a waste of money and natural resources that nVIDIA is making us (sort-of) to renew every 6 months.

Time passes so quickly... I wonder if we will get holographic displys in the next 5 years...

Well... guess i have gone a bit off topic... so anyways i won't be getting anything unless i really need to (like Matrox launches RSN )... i mean i am not even getting the most out of my g550 (AFAIK i haven't make use of HeadCasting AT ALL )

if I see another quote from Carmack I'll throw up

I for one won't be buying one, firstly I would have a damn hard time justifying the cost, secondly I just bought a cheapo Ti4200 which I am more than happy with.

my sig seems particularly appropriate in a thread like this
Look, I know you think the world of me, that's understandable, you're only human, but it's not nice to call somebody "Vain"!
