Yep three warranty but it's a bloody big monitor at the top of some stairs so I generally wait until it's gets a real pain in the ass.

The price on the 19" Cornerstone came from Insight Canada's web page. the model is P1401 at $1044 Canadian and is the only 19" Cornerstone they carry. As this monitor isn;t on Cornerstone's web site I can only conclude it is an older listing, probably the predecessor to the P2450. There may be a few other cheaper Canadian online dealers but Insight is reputable and easy to deal with if there is a problem. None of my local dealers has even heard of Cornerstone.

As for going via a US dealer, add in shipping and an echnage rate approaching 64% and it becomes unfeasible, especially if there are any problems with the unit. A $500 US monitor would cost $820 plus shipping and the exchange on that as well. (and if it wasn't made in the US or Canada probably duty too)

Do yourself a flavor and contact them to at least verify how they would handle sales to their Canadian customers.

As far as reputable customer service you can bet they are #1 in this area. Shoot even one of mine bellied up after it's warranty was over (not to mention it was a factory serviced model) and it was replaced with an identical unit for free including shipping!

Seems that because unlike all the BIG names in the business Cornerstone doesn't have a manufacturing facility anywhere but in Taiwan and the US. Because of this import fees and duties are charged and thus business as usual

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Greebe. I reexaminied the Cornerstone offerings in 19". Decent specs, and the price is not bad actually (Bob is a nice chap) bud some of the reviews have been rather less than favourable (although the 21"+ do well in reviews)

I've added the Cornerstone P2450 to my candidates list (they discontinued the 2460). and am still "in process". Additionally I have also passed on the existance of a Canadian dealer and service centre to a colleague who may be interested in their 21" offerings.

BTW that 800# is only good west of Manitoba.

That's interesting. The only Philips monitors I've seen have been on their website and in reviews from European websites. They either have little or no North American market penetration, keep a low profile, or are a well kept secret.

Actually, reading some of the things I have I would like to see one of their 19" as I understand (based on articles and reviews) that they have a nice display and a very short depth, which would be perfect here.

It would seem, just from my researching monitors that a number of brands seem more popular in Europe and Oceania than North America, most notably Philips and LG. The latter seems to be a love it or hate it sort of thing, a legacy from Goldstar perhaps who had a reputation for cheap mass market hardware.

I do like the look and concepot behind the LG Flatron's. I also notice the Viewsonic P90F and P70F are advertised as "strip pitch" without damper wires so I wonder if they aren't using the LG Flatron tubes.

Perhaps the saddest part in my search has been the discovery that Hitachi no longer make their superlative shadow mask tubes. I have seen and used several of these in the past and they are (or should I say were) fantastic monitors. The new Hitachi use a Samsung tube and it is just not as sharp, or as vibrant as the old Hitachi tube.
