Anyone who thinks an $11 difference in price is a big deal to get a better motherboard has no business building a computer in the first place.

BTW, it would be awfully nice of AMD bought up SIS to serve as their chipset and solutions division. Merging the knowledge of the AMD chipset team and SIS would probably give them an excellent edge. For Opteron to be a success, AMD really needs to offer a more complete package of support solutions. That is their real achilles heel in this market, and it's a big part of what keeps Intel ahead.

11$? for the mobo... yes.... and then i'll have to spend another 150$ for a new stick of 512MB DDR memory....

since i already have 512MB Pc133.. and since this is a secondary system only.... i dont care to spend 160$ extra on it...

thanks K6-III.. that's what i wanted to hear...

I consider the AK75 a better value due to 333mhz FSB compatability for future upgrades. However, if you already have a fair supply of PC133, there is no doubt that the K7S5A is the better value....

          1. I have rev. 1.0 boards and have had ZERO problems with them.

          2. as for "infrequent bios updates"....PFFTTTT. The K7S6A has posted 3 in 9 months; more than I've seen for a lot of more expensive boards.

Also; they've posted 13 updates for the K7S5A in a year...better than one a month.

          3. most K7S5A LAN problems are due to a previous AMIBIOS flash tool killing it when the BIOS is updated. There is a patch linked to the BIOS page for fixing the problem if/when it arises.

I was referring to the K7S6A compared to the K7S5A in terms of bios updates.

The best bios happens to be a beta bios hosted by OCWorkbench for the K7S6A.

The AK75 will probably be going into my LAN Party box....

Look for a little sticker with "XP" near the cpu socket. That will tell you that the board is certified for running a Athlon XP.

The K7S6A was the most stable of those, but some users on OCworkbench complain of failing USB ports. Bios updates are very infrequent for that board.

                Of course you were

My 1.0 K7S5A's have the XP sticker, but you should update the BIOS if you're going for any of the faster ones. Note my previous info on the LAN patch if a BIOS update messes it up.

doesn't seem to be a problem with XP's or anything so im going for the K7S5A.

                  thanks

Oh wait! Please don't let this thread die yet!

So, is there any SiS chipset board that has three SDRAM slots?

                    Thanks.
