I think the glow might be a common fault - not perfect power regulation or something. All the other faults I assume to be particular to your part

    Thanks again everybody,

The "shine" or "glow" effect is caused for the most by the crt's grill/mask design.

I thought it looked a little like it was caused by the glass or its anti-glare coating. It's a little disturbing.

The Volcano 7 will not be able to cool that cpu!! Trust me I have tried and it was constantly over 60C in the bios! Get yourself a Volcano 7+ instead! Also the volcano 7 fan makes lots of noice as it works with higher speeds!

Another good cooling solution would be a Thermalright AX-7 or its big brother the Thermalright SLK-800!

EDIT: BTW you should bee able to get the Volcano 7+ for 30€ or less!

The AX7 is definitely quite a bargain for the cooling you get....

Yeah, I was already looking at the SLK-800, but it's £40 (with a silent YStech 80mm). I had hoped OcUK had the 600 still in stock, but I don't know if that was any good. Looks like the 800 it is.

                  Just remember guys;

IF you have a problem getting your AGP card working right or it doesn't take an IRQ when using Win2K on a SiS chipped board 95% of the time the fix is to install AMD's AGP patch.

Symptom with Marvels: video tools won't install.

Good evening Mr Palomino, how lovely to make your acquaintance...

Well, just heard from Broon that he has put in our order (combined it to save delivery).

We both got the MSI SiS 745 Ultra, 512MB DDR memory, and a Thermaltake 7+, but I went for the 2000+ with Samsung PC2700, and he got the 2200+ Tbred with Crucial PC2100.

Getting a graphics card later, so in the meantime I wonder how my G400 will fly

Thanks for the help guys, and fingers crossed there won't be a "SiS 745 setup issues" thread in the near future

Oh, and FINALLY! Another Falkirk MURCer (although I'm sure Broon will stay a mini)

                    P.

Edit: Just saw Broon has done another custom avatar - took me months to get round to doing mine, and he's done 2 in 2 days.

Also, the reason I went for the 2000+ was to save £50, and also knocked £20 off the HSF, so went from ~£365 to ~£295 ($510 to $410), for a very slight performance drop. This cash will go to Parhelia and a high-perf video media system later in the year/early next (planning to wait on a P4 with USB2/1394/sATA etc). The 2000+ should make a nice second system by then (plus it means I'm ridding myself of Abit even quicker).

Just don't forget to do a full XP reinstall on a reformatted drive. I installed XP on my old 8KTA3, and then switched motherboards. It worked okay, but I didn't get the 24 IRQs from APIC until I did XP from scratch. My Audigy works okay now too.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

                        I was thinking about Win2000

S'pose I could give XP another try, but this is hopefully going to be a "no play" system. Plus I need to install Linux, as I'm going to be using it all next year at Uni.

                        Hello gcc

Thanks to everyone who helped me out!

                          Hopefully everything should go well!

                          Thanks Again
