  • pci texture memory...?

What does the PCI texture setting option found in many video card control panels do exactly?

I was under the impression it only works if you are using a PCI video card. If you are using an AGP card it has no effect on the system, correct?

I have recently seen people on a forum swearing that it is speeding up their systems if set to zero, but they are using AGP cards.

Actually, as I recall, when I last tried to change mine, it just reset to some default value all the time and would not let me do anything.

What is the deal here? (Just so I can set them all straight....)

I would think it makes more sense to turn up the AGP apature size in the system BIOS.

Put that PCI Texture setting to default setting first.

      1. Then try running a video card benchmarker on your video card.
      2. Note the results
      3. Do it a couple more times. (usually if it's done 5 times then you can get a solid average)
      4. Calculate the average of all the scores.

Then set your PCI Texturing to zero and redo steps 1 through 4.

Then compare the results and you should have your answer, in theory.
