Haha funny this 'cos I witnessed some bloke in a computer shop trying to convince a customer that AGP and PCI slots were basically the same - you could plug one card into the other sort of slot and vice-versa - that some connectors would "stick out of the end" didn't reallt matter (!).

Clock up one (dishonest) sale for the salesman!

I would love to try thoise devices out. I have a 486 that I use for such experiements.

Now all I need is an agp video card to sacrifice....

Did they use Hint on PcChips?

Damn. That's a little too expensive for a simple experiment.

I'll let you know if I change my mind though.

I have once seen a computer where they had mangled an AGP card into an PCI

I had previously read about it in "computer Stupiditys" and never fought that I would see it in "real life" but
If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.

*IF* such a thing could work well, imagine the usual dually mobo with 1 agp and 2 pci64 slots running 3 parhelias doing a 3x3 video wall...

Me thinks you could still only run one AGP card in your system, and the PCI adater will cut down some functionality.

If it was cheaper I would try to put my old AGP G200 in my computer for and extra 2d display or maybe resurrect my old AGP geforce 1 VIVO as a capture card.

i'm not entirely positive, but you should be able to disable all the extra features of AGP versus PCI66 - sideband addressing, etc...

a fair amount of the early AGP video cards were simply PCI graphics chips operating in an AGP slot... the motherboards are quite capable of operating in this sort of mode..

granted, i'm not entirely positive how many graphics cards would acctually work given that scenario... there would be no chance of getting any i74x graphics card working, and i would question just about any current graphics cards.. and even if the card works (which it should) the drivers may fail because of the inability to cope with the lack of these abilities...
