This months Pcplus has also tested machines based on Intels P4 3.06 processor and there conclussion is that Hyperthreading overall makes no differance. The only programme they noticed a differance was with Lightwave which reduced the rendering time by 1 1/2seconds. Doubtful that you'd notice it.
Excel ran quicker but not so that user would notice while Corel ran slower again not that the user may notice. Again it's another review and as with most reviews these days you take them with a little pinch of salt.

Man, oh man. Lemme just list my random thoughts here...
1-The [H] has pretty much always been a well respected hardware site *until this*.
2-It is POSSIBLE that this was just an error, or a typo, etc...but then why didn't Kyle just come out and say it instead of denying it?
3-Ok, maybe they OC'd the Radeon, or the CPU, or both. I would really like to see what one of those 4+Ghz P4's would run with an OC'd Radeon 9700.
4-There is absolutely no excuse for the way they treated respected forum members. I have close to 1K posts there, and I'm glad I missed out on this whole thing at the [H] while it was fresh. I'd like to keep my membership there.

I'm not totally siding either way here, but it DEFINITELY looks suspicious. The [H] mods are overly quick to ban and kill threads (I've had reasonable threads killed before), but this is just ridiculous. Whether it was an honest mistake or bribery, I'll be spending a little less time there, and a little more time here.

BTW, what was the conspiracy with Tom's hardware that people made references to?

Even in the ...errm... "corrected version" they're still the only website around the whole wide world that actually claim to have got a 400 points speedup in a singlethreaded app like 3DMark2001SE which is outright impossible if the benching takes place in a correct way.
In their original review they had a near 1000 points increase and corrected it after the first posts wondering about this not even unlikely but impossible thing came up. Those posts were deleted (and the posters banned, of course...) - and still all posts are deleted that are asking on how they come to get the 400 points increase when everyone else get the same results with and without HT, maybe a "plus" of 50 points.

An easy way to get banned is just asking politely if they could explain how they gain anything in 3DMark as a single threaded app at all (while everyone else is not) and how the strangely large performance delta between the P4 2.8GHZ and the 3.0 GHz is explained other than an overclocked R9700.
