I used the Cat 3.6 and Radclocker.

I had some strange things happen after installing the card.

I ran 3DMark2003 just to see how fast and stable things were and my whole system shut down hard. It would not power up until I reseated the card.

Now the only issue I know or see right now is that UT won't run for more than a couple minutes in D3D before kicking me out to the desktop.

UT works OK in oGL after replacing the UT oGL with the UTgl2.3 file from here:

On the Non Pro Sapphire 9800 the GPU speed is 324MHz and the Memory is 289Mhz. Using Radclocker I have it running "fairly" stable at GPU= 403 and Memory= 327. I 'll try higher setting tonight.

Any suggestions for the D3D issue in UT?????

So, compared to the Parhelia it is faster but that's about it. Close on visual quality but it's not Matrox quality.

And did I say "Buggy"..... ROFL!!!!!

How long has the Radeon Line been around now.....LOL

Fast and Buggy isn't always better than slower and stable .....

I need a new challenge and it looks like I'll have my hands full for awhile.

    Arrrrr !!
That's the call of the Parhelia, come baaaaackkkk to usssss, weee neeedssss youuuuuu....

        Err...

I have ZERO games which crash. Ever. EVER.

I use whatever Catalysts and Omegas I want.

My 8500 plays everything, every time, and never crashes.

I dunno WHAT is going on with you people who put in a Radeon and have it crash all over the place.

GODDAMMIT, when I reboot my PC with my new 9200, it gets all retarded looking halfway through the windows load screen (vertical bars), and then the monitor signal is cut off. Right now I'm in safe mode.

            AHHH!

ALBPM, still those problems you have for sure are not normal. Those that have such strange problems mostly have one of the following:
1.) they did not reinstall windows after changing from another gfxcard, especially nVidia ones. And no, Detonator destroyer and DriverCleaner cannot always solve ALL problems that might arise due to this.
2.) the power-supply is too weak. you should use a good 350W one with at least 30A on the 5V.
3.) Other components are oc'ed too much. And don't come saying "my previous card ran at this AGP speeds". First, these are different hardwares, it might even be that another card with the exact same chip than the one you used before would not run. Second, Faster gfx-Card stress the AGP transfer more, so an oc'ed bus might suddenly show that has not created problems before with the ols slow card.
4.) There is a incompatibility with your mainboard/BIOS/BIOS-settings. Unfortunately AGP8x and fastwrites still don't run stable in all cases (same goes for nVidia cards, btw). So try to set AGP4x and Fastwrites off - they don't provide a speed gain anyway.

                        I did all that Indiana...

Actually UT runs great in oGL. It also runs in oGL overclocked at GPU405/Mem327.

I'm just more curious why it's not running UT in D3d.

1.) I only had the Parhelia in this system. I ran Driver Clean anyways because WN XP has ATI drivers in it. Most people don't realize this and load their Catalyst drivers over the existing ATI drivers in XP.

2.) PC Power and Cooling 400W

3.) I may need to slow down my system memory a bit.

4.) Fast Writes, DDC and USWC are off. AGP set to 4X and Aperature 128.

                          1. You did not do an uninstall after changing from the Parhelia? Who knows if Matrox' uninstaller REALLY uninstallt everything. The uninstallers of other companies don't, so....

                          2. Yeah, should be enough

3.) Might be a reason. To high clocked RAM is together with too fast AGP-bus clocking and incompatible AGP settings another common reason for the drop-back-to-desktop mysterium that seems to solely occur in D3D applications. (damn, how I hated this one way back then with my G400 and NFS5 Porsche... The culprit was the BAD Asus K7M)

4.) Also try lower AGP sizes (64MB and even 32MB) as some people report better results when using those with >=128MB gfxcards.

ALBPM if you get crashes...etc with an ATI card the first thing to try is a full video driver cleanout and then reinstall.

                              Yep.

                              Also:

                              1. The builtin radeon drivers in XP don't even support the Radeon 8500, nevermind your 9xxx series. They are NOT a concern.

                              2. If you're overclocking ANYTHING, that renders any arguments you're making null and void. If you were a "n00b" I'd just laugh and tell you to come back when your system was clean and stock. As it is, why don't you try dropping everything back to default?

The only issue I have is with D3d and UT. Nothing else crashes with my overclocked system.

UT runs great in openGL. It seems that most over at Rage3D don't even bother with using D3d with UT. They claim that it is a Glide game and just doesn't work well in D3d.

Strange....Matrox cards run UT beatifully in D3d

All the Matrox stuff was deleted....I do know very well how to do that and even though the XP ATI drivers (Rage etc.) don't apply I removed them anyway.

The only glitch I have is with D3d and UT. I got used to using D3d for UT with the Parhelia.

I guess I'm not used to having to utilize so many third party drivers for a card.

Kinda reminds me of the G200 days...LOL
