No, the VX2000 is an older model compared to the VP201b or VP211b. And from what I understand it exhibits terrible ghosting in some games. I think I'll just go with the NEC, dunno for some reason I don't trust Viewsonic.

        About VeiwSonic:
I have had one of their 15 inch models on Demo for about half a year now (sold three of them last week ) and the responsivness is great for such an old model

Unfortunatley, despite loking at the model number I can't seem to recal it atm

Dunno, after using a 19" Viewsonic at work for a couple of years some time ago I just can't bring myself to buy one. That particular monitor had poor focus and geometry. I know CRTs and LCDs are completely different but the bad taste lingers around for long and is hard to get rid off, so my resevation remains. I like the NEC though, but it is quite a bit more than the Viewsonic. I wonder why.

Because it's one of the best 20" TFTs in the world

Look at the prices for the EIZO L985EX and the Sharp LL-T 2020H, which are in the same league performance-wise, you'll see the NEC is actually quite a bargain!

I have the Philips 200P3M - and i don't know if it gets any better for the money. It's about 250€ cheaper than the 2080UX and has an almost identical panel (c't compared response times, Philips was even 1ms better on rising, and the view degrees were exactly the same - might even be the same panel). Doesn't have Pivot and NaviSet though, but instead (useless) speakers and S-Video input so you can watch DVDs.

No ghosting or anything in games here. But if you the additional 250€ are no problem than 2080UX is probably the better choice.

hehe since he already decided on the 2080UX let me hijack this thread...

What do you guys think of Viewsonic VP171b and VP191b?

I believe only the pro series from viewsonic are worth a look. The specs are okay.. but i cant seem decide on either of them..

No, they just happen to make some very nice TFTs at a competitive price at the moment, and I've drooled over them for a while, but unfortunately didn't win the lottery yet

Well, I'm almost ready to order. The only thing that worries me is the dreaded dead-pixel exchange policy. Most on-line retailers won't exchange unless you have 8 or more dead pixels. I'd hate having just one especially after spending TONS of money on a monitor. So, anyone know what's NEC's exchange policy regarding dead pixels? Would they exchange a monitor due to just one dead pixel regardless of where it is on screen?

                          I seriously doubt it

From the FAQ at their site:
Our specifications allow 10 missing dots. But, if there is a cluster of some missing dots, we will consider that depending on colors that are missing and distance between the quantity of missing dots.

I guess it'd be the same as with all others, basically.. Class II, allowing up to 5 dead subpixels per million pixels. I suggest finding a retailer with a good return policy. In europe, we have the right to return ANY goods (except food, etc.) within two weeks without giving reason, and no restocking fee may be charged, and shipping costs must be paid by the on-line retailer. I don't know where you are, but maybe you have something like this where you live.

Alternatively, you could try and find it offline, and demand to see it before you buy it.

That said, even if it has dead/lit pixels (which isn't unlikely with big TFTs), the issue is overblown, IMHO. Of course, a lit green subpixel right in the middle of the screen can be very annoying, but if it's more to the edge, it really isn't all that bad, especially with the small pixels on a 1600x1200 unit.

Of course, this also depends on the background colors you use.
