Yes but it is only a recommendation as on now, it will not be enforced everywhere until 200x (don't ask me when). Good that Germany jumped the wagon immediately

PS. Shipping costs must only paid by the retailer on things that are 40€+

PS. Yes bright pixels are TERRIBLE, however dark pixels are hardly noticeable. I got lucky

The only manufacturer as of now I know that has a zero bright pixels policy is Philips - they kill lit pixels off with a laser. Unfortunately, their screens are not as good as NECs.

Oh, and CTX has a 17" for which they guarantee absolute zero dead pixels.

Yep they p1mped the CTX to me.

Problem with the CTX 17" is analog only (the one with nice price).

Now in pcplus they got a 19 inch CTX model with a quoted 15ms response time. I don't believe that somehow.

Yeh they got it wrong. 15ms + 10ms. Slightly different.

Hmm, interesting. Looks like Sharp has just announced a new 20.1" UXGA flat panel monitor, the LL-T2015, in Japan. From what I can discern these have 16ms response time. Very intriguing.... I wonder if I should wait with my purchase of the NEC and see if these show up here any time soon. I was going to order the NEC today but now I don't know what to do
Anyway, here's what Digit-Life posted about the monitor:
"Japanese Sharp announced 20.1" TFT LCD monitor LL-T2015 with max. resolution of 1600 x 1200 dots (UXGA) that is will be on sale from Aug 26. There will be two versions released – with black and white body. Estimated price for the model is about $1500.
                LL-T2015 is equipped with two interfaces — D-Sub & DVI-I, brightness – 250 nit, contrast ratio 400:1, viewing angle – 176 degrees both horizontal and vertical. Dimensions — 450 õ 228 õ 438~498 mm, weight is about 9.8 kg."

Sharp do make very good TFTs. If the price is true, this might be a winner. That said, the NEC won't get worse just because a new screen is released, so if it's perfect for you and you'd like to have it now, there's no reason to wait.

If the Sharp panel became available in the next month or so I'd be more than willing to wait. However, since it's so new I don't think anyone knows when it'll show up. Dunno if the performance difference is really worth the wait....

I just visited the sharp website, and saw they already have a LL-T2020H. I saw this in a review placed against the 2080UX, and both were on par, only the sharp cost a lot more. So, if the lower price (compared to the LL-T 2020) and lower model number are any indication, it won't be quite as good as the 2080UX (or the LL-T 2020, which costs ~2000 EUR). Actually, I couldn't believe the price you gave for the LL-T 2015, if it were to be a competitor, performance-wise, to the 2080UX (I had forgotten the LL-T 2020 was already in this segment), because sharp TFTs are always quite high-priced (too high for their admittedly good performance, IMHO).

So now I guess it's clear why the LL-T 2015 has such a competitive price.

NOTE: The above is all (educated) speculation.

That's odd. The T2020 has a response time of 25ms and costs MORE than the newly announced T2015 with lower response time? I hope the T2015 has as good an image quality as it does response time. I know that the first 17" 16ms panels (from AU Optronics I think) could only truly display 18-bit colour. From what I could see at the Japanese site though it stated 16 million colours supported. Man, and here I was ready to buy the NEC panel. Hopefully we'll soon get some info on release of this beast in other countries.... I wonder, is it possible to import from Japan
