I don't understand. Why wouldn't you just get Asus and then you don't have to worry about stability. I know they have a few lemons out there, but for the most part, almost all of their mobo's are very stable.

Yeah, they are the most expesnive, but well worth it. I have a VIA KT266 mobo now and I have no problems with it, simply because it is Asus.

I think Asrock with the K7S8XE+, if you consider it's about the only one with native SATA support (SIS 964 southbridge).

My soyo Dragon KT400 has served me well for the past year. Though I don't do video capture or use the PCI BUS to any extreme, The chipset has been perfectly stable for me. and I have had no complaints about it...

But if you push the PCI bus like many of us do playtime is over....

Err, my SiS735 is faster then the KT266 :/

The fact you payed a lot of money for it makes the reality of it even more depressing.

Something strange is going on, I think SiS chipset boards should be more high profile. There is a perception that SiS is low end. IT seems the average user doesn't push the PCI bus much. Most people (reviewers included) agree that the SiS chipsets are cheaper, more stable and not much slower than the competition in games. You would think that mobo manufacturers would pick up on this. To date no manufacturer except ASRock is pushing the 746 and 748 boards. The main area where the SiS motherboards seem to fall down in is memory. The ASRock's are apparently partial to Corsair memory. I have Crucial memory and it doesn't want to go faster than FSB 140 (mem 175) at default settings. The rev. 3 K7S8X(E[+])es have multiplier in bios so some overclocking is possible. I have no complaints with my mobo. I run 140/175 without any problems. I have captured video from the avermedia for over 2 hours without a single dropped frame. This on a machine with a single disk and a single partition.

I know - it's really surprised me how few SiS 748 mobos there are around.

There's "tradition" to account for. Until they released the 735, I wouldn't have touched SiS with a 10-foot pole. Every chipset they released was low-budget crap of the worst kind.

So they have a LOT of prejudice to overcome.

748 boards are few and far between, the ones I know of are the Iwill K7S3-N, Aopen AK76F and the ASRock K7S8XE(+).

I've just got hold of the Aopen board, seems stable enough and has plenty of options in the BIOS except two. Multiplier has be adjusted by jumpers and there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the VCore, although AGP and DIMM voltages can be changed

Well Via have got a tradition as well and sadly the drivers love living up to it. The last few Sis chipsets I've had have been fine.

                            There's also the ECS 748-A, the DFI 748-AL and the Gigabyte GA-7S748 & GA-7S748-L.
Though manufacturers with SIS tradition for AMD boards are ECS and Asrock.

I am sorry Helevitia, but if my board wasn't rock stable I wouldn't be here bragging about it.
