Nope just a cut down install of Mandrake. Each update has been bug fixes and security fixes only no new bits that ain't needed. So far I think it's surpassed XP updates including the service packs.

Maybe I should update my server, last few times I've tried, there weren't any updates on there. This was a while ago though. I have MDK 9.2 on it. At least it's EASY to update it, using urpmi
I win, I had 103mb of updates! I actually am surprised, the last few versions of Mandrake that I've used didn't have this many updates. Which means one of two things, either this version is much buggier than previous versions, or Mandrake is doing a much better job at releasing updated packages.
Either way, the XP updates might be smaller, but they still take a lot longer to install! Why is it that 100mb of updates can install extremely fast through rpm, yet 100mb of updates on XP (like SP1) can take 40 minutes just to install it! (I'm not talking about download time either.)

Eh I haven't noticed any differance between windoze update and Linux downloads except when everyone was patching for blaster. Thats barring reboots.
Perhaps more bugs are being spotted as Linux increases it's market share and bloat.

Theres probably a differance between distros as well. Although Red Hat has had a lot it's been nowhere as many as Mandrake. Both however outstrip updates for XP for security and bugs.
Linux has grown a lot in recent years getting more and more bloated just like another certain OS so I'd expect the bugs to go up.

Out of all the Mandrake updates I saw, most of them were there very own softare, the drakx tools. The others were of course the XFree86 packages, which are HUGE. Still, if you take out download time, the installation process to me seems always to take MUCH longer on XP (maybe due to the progress bar not being very accurate, or updating as it should... ) At least with Debian it tells you EXACTLY what it is doing.

Have you ever heard of the Zero Install? Basically it is a system that just runs the software off the net. Now THAT I could see causing bandwidth problems. And I don't think Updates for linux/windows/OS whatever. With how much spam I get daily...
