It was very loud lightning strike, it sounded like it was metres away(i though it was an explosion intitally)...and then my internet was dead.

So far the modem seem irretrievable , the router will only work as a switch/dhcp but the wan port is dead...and switch that was connected via its uplink port to the router has lost that port...me thinks any amount of reseting the modem or router is not going to help...and I have ^%$ tried.

I guess its just bad luck, but I was lucky "enough" that it did not fry my computers as well.

Actually the ag041 looks like a decent little adsl/modem/firewall router/switch for the price

Its a brenad new item and its only just popped up on the web linksys website, the product page has a few bad links(eg user guide)

      The proper guide is

      ftp://ftp.linksys.com/international/...g041_eu_ug.pdf

Looks like it has a good firewall, which can stealth port properly..etc

apart from the lottery of any brand new line, anyone see a reason not to buy this item?

      its either the

      linksys ag041 (1 year wty)
      or the
      netgear dg834 (2y wty)

      both are about $160-170(AUD)

      which would you buy?

Bought a linksys ag041. I was a bit worried as it such a new model and I read a few people were having some problems(sounded like PEBKAC)

But It seems to be very nice, I put my login details in the web config screen and I was on about 3minutes.

Took another minute to open ports for emule(edonkey).

Seems very nice and problem free...fingers crossed.

Now I can give that crappy webexcel(puretech) modem back to my mate, actually it worked quite well even the firewall, So if you ever need a supa cheap bargain adsl/modem/router its not a bad buy..
