Thanks, that was way better than the crappy MTV produced show.

The MTV show was the brainchild of the guy who used to be in charge of marketing for the Dreamcast. Supposedly he worked with MTV a lot during his Sega days and just called up his old contacts to arrange this show. He needs to be given a shake.

Gates isn't an idiot, hopefully, he'll realize that pandering to the MTV club kid generation won't sell boxes and he'll replace the idiot responsible.

        I mean pullleaze...

Walking through a crowd of e'd out cheering zombies with the unit tucked under your arm in a duffle bag? WTF? It's not portable! Then she pressed the power button... but it wasn't plugged it!

And the crowd screamed louder. She could have pulled out a flaming bag of dog vomit and the crowd would have cheered. Seriously, WTF? I hope, for his sake, that Gates was disappointed.

Ok, here's my review of that show... All flash, no bang!

        'nuff said.

I've spent some time checking various gaming sites and it doesn't seem like anyone's really impressed. Poor MS, they might have just lost this round of the console wars before it even started...

            Graphics: custom ATI 500MHz (10MB embedded memory), 500 million polygons/sec, 48 million shader ops/sec
            Memory: 512MB GDDR3 (shared)

PS2 has 4MB embedded memory...which makes it very different that PC when it comes to programming. If new Xbox will be equally different than perhaps developers won't be on MS side this time...

edit: oh, and as far I understand this kind of graphics memory works well only if whole machine architecture is geared toward it - "flow" of everything. Somehow I don't believe that MS went too far from typical PC architecture

The Media Center Extender features make it quite interesting for me...rather than having another PC in the living room, this would work quite nicely with a WiFi connection to stream video, music or pics from a file server. Having the feature built-in is worlds better than the current XBox solution, which requires you to put in the software CD any time you want to use it

The official fact sheet has been posted: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm

Still no word on backwards compatibility etc. I'm getting the impression that a playstation 3 will be more exciting.
                Main: Dual Xeon LV2.4Ghz@3.1Ghz | 3X21" | NVidia 6800 | 2Gb DDR | SCSI
                Second: Dual PIII 1GHz | 21" Monitor | G200MMS + Quadro 2 Pro | 512MB ECC SDRAM | SCSI
                Third: Apple G4 450Mhz | 21" Monitor | Radeon 8500 | 1,5Gb SDRAM | SCSI

I read on Gamespot that they're revealing the answer the backwards compatibility issue at their E3 press conference.

                      Developers "on MS's side"?

When did this happen? They bought Rare, and we STILL haven't seen an XBox game from them, nevermind the much-anticipated Conker 2.

The only developer who IS on their side is Bungie. Games for the XBox suuuuuuuuck!

I think its just about impossible to really impress anyone these days with anything since everything (both good and bad) gets the shit hyped out of it.

If they can keep the price around 300 for a decently optioned verison. I'll get one around Xmas.

Now as for backwards-compatibility, I hereby go on the record saying it will suck. It will suck much like Sony's backwards compatibility for the PS2 sucked - in that most games will work, some will refuse to work, and some of the ones that work will look funny or run too slow or too fast. And Sony owned the patents and designers for BOTH of the chips that ran the PSX and PS2.

3 SMP 3Ghz PowerPC chips have, between them, enough power to emulate a 700Mhz P3. Barely. I tend to think that it won't directly emulate the chip, but will do what console emulators for the PC have been doing since the N64 generation, which is called "black box" emulation.

The problem with "black box" emulation is that there will be a percentage of games that just WON'T run, regardless of how much you tweak it, and unfortunately it'll have to be continually updated. Expect network file pushes of updates to the emulator. Bleh.

Overall I'm unimpressed. XBox had a few killer games this time around, and a gigantic marketing push that managed to overcome the fact that the hardware was lackluster, the controllers were massively oversized, and the entire thing was horrifically overpriced despite being a money loser for them.

This time around? I dunno. Console gamers are a strange lot, spending money like an FPS-kiddie on a Doom3 jones with a bunch of nVidia cards staring him in the face, but are they seriously gonna shell out... whatever this thing will cost? It's gonna be a LOT, or else MS will lose even MORE money on it.

Well, to be precise I thought more about fanboys yelling "PS2 is soooooo terrible to code for, and look how easy it is to code on Xbox when you come from PC!"

edit: yeah, most games suck...but I would like to play Steel Battalion definately :/ Not only a decent (well...MS stole it from Sony, so no wonder ) game, but also the controller...

Ballmer and McNealy were interviewed on CNBC this morning and Ballmer was asked about X-Box at the end of the segment. Ballmer looked like the typical tech executive who is smiling and trying to put on his best face while he contradicted the claim of their lackluster market share and he less-than-confidently pronounced they will dominate that market in the next year. He basically looked like this ...

I wouldn't buy anything from this man.
