Death Star strikes again
Ok, here's the scoop.
It was a windows security issue.
What I had to do was disable simple file sharing.
This enabled the security tab for the drive as a whole.
Logged on as administrator I had to take over the drive,
and then the files.
No big deal.
HA!
Remember this is a Death Star.
It has been arciving files for some years with little writing, all of it done at the end of the file chain.
So what happens when you change the attributes of ALL the files on a Death Star used as a backup?
It read/writes to areas of the drive that have seen no activity in a long time.
It DIES in mid update!
It's not a boot drive, but Windows won't even start now with it plugged in.
I'll try NDD, but I suspect it's a gonner.
This is much like how it's two predecessors went.
Sigh...
PS I can laugh because I had backups.

PPS The partition showed up as plain vanilla in windows and Partition Magic.
