  • What is THE internal IDE DVD recorder to buy?

A mate needs one. The last one he got (Samsung) is VERY fussy about discs, even with the latest firmware.

I've favoured NEC for a while.

    Any suggestions?

    TIA

I've been using -R/+R/RAM multiformat burners by LG and Lite-On with good results. They'll take generic Office Max and the other generics I've tried in stride and work great with Verbatim etc.

I've seen some great prices at NewEgg; $30-$40 or so.

    ex: OEM LG Black GSA-H22NK

    18X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 18X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X

    $31.49

If you like NEC, you could get one for $25 HERE:

Right now the "ultimate" burner is probably BenQ. But you're not going to go wrong with NEC or LG, just not as "right".

          Thanks Guys.

It's also a question of what I can find at a store that also sells some other specific things I need right now.

One LH GSA-H22LBB on its way. £24.68.

(NEC have changed their model numbering so its hard to work out what is the natural successor to the 3550 I have here).

I've always been a Plextor man myself, but I haven't kept up with burners in a while. LG and NEC have typically been the top choice for a good low cost burner. I know BenQ makes pretty good LCD panels, but I haven't read anything about their burners.

I usually always buy Plextor because they last forever (it took 8 years for my 8x burner to die) and work great. Plus they typically have the nicer features that EAC looks for when ripping audio.

But that's just me, and I hate toasting media or buying a new burner every other year, so I stick with my Plextor.

BENQ make very good DVD burners at the moment; I don't recommend them because of what they did with Siemens Mobile.

BenQ occupies the same place that Lite-On did a few years ago, and then Pioneer did. It reads and writes the most media the most reliably... right now.

But NEC has been solid all along, as has LG.

The best I think is the Pioneer 111A which burns litterally every media you can think of, and for only $50 Canadian

Actually I changed to an NEC ND-4571 at the last minute - on offer and a little cheaper and with label flash.

Couldn't find a BenQ at places with the other stuff.

BTW Jamm, last few (two?) Plextor DVD burners are "BenQ retail" drives :>
