2407WFP or another monitor?

Dell sent me a 15% off coupon in the mail. It expires in March. I can use it on the already 10% discounted 2407WFP for a grand total of $573. That's 25% off! Actually, I'd have to pay tax so add $50 and that makes $623 shipped to my door. I know the banding issues were fixed long ago and everyone pretty much agrees it's a nice monitor.

Should I be looking at a different monitor? What about the successor to this monitor? I know the 3007 gets an upgrade in February, but I haven't hear about an upgrade for the 2407.

What about the add-on sound bar? Can I use that as my center speaker? Is it any good or should i jsut stick with my Klipsch center? Obviously the Klipsch will sound better but I'd gladly lose the Klipsch center for a cleaner desktop if the sound bar sounded OK. Opinions?

I have the 2407WFP (no sound bar etc) and I can say its a really good monitor.

However, I still use a 2nd monitor next to it, and to be honest I'd be just as happy with a pair of 19" TFTs. Perhaps its just the way I work, but I prefer to have apps dedicated to screens, and there's little point in making a lot of them 1900 pixels wide. Sure there are those times when that width on one uninterrupted screen is useful - I guess it depends on if you use those apps and are happy to pay the premium over a pair of smaller monitors.

I have one at work so no gaming experience on it. I am very happy with it. I'm just sad my other 2 screens are only 20" 4:3.....

Sat here right now with that setup (minus triple head2go - standard parhelia8x and a G200MMS). Really is lovely to work on, so much space and the vertical res matches perfectly across all 3 screens which was a problem with my old 20" CRT's. Not done any gaming on it since adding the 2 2007FP's (actually 1 is a 2001FP) mainly due to the fact the the old P cant handle it!

The 2007 Widescreen is absolutely fine for gaming - it is what I'm currently using at home.
Have been for a while now.
I'm actually in the process of moving to the 2407 Widescreen (Wife wanted one of the 2007's so she is going to have mine and I'm getting the larger one).
I know of four people here at work who have the 2407 and game and each one of them loves it to bits and has no complaints.
Well other than the fact that to play in the native resolution with all the "eye candy" on does require a good specification machine.
I'm hoping my Core Duo 6400 & 7800GTX should be enough to drive things with most of the nice bits switched on.

I'm in the UK so it is a little difficult to get the "out of country" deals.
By the time I've added in VAT and import tax it's not such a great deal.
The other thing is - I don't honestly think I'd want anything as big as the 30" panel.
People do look at me oddly when I say that.
However when I consider how I sit at my computer desk at home, how close I am from the screen, how close I want to be, home close keyboards are etc.
I think that the 24" panel is about as large as I want to go.

Well, I ordered both the 2407FPW and the 2007FP I couldn't resist as I got 30% off of the 2007FP and 25% off the 2407FPW. Total cost was $991 shipped(1168 CAD or 503 GBP) . If Matrox ever comes out with TripleH2GO Digital, I may buy another 2007FP.

Sry, missed it. Yes I do. the WS is running, I think, on integrated nVidia and the two 20" HPs are running on another nVidia card (6600LE??, passive cooling). No 3D monsters but it's all DVI so it's very nice for work.

I do have the soundbar. For the size it ain;t bad. I've two small harman kardon speakers at home (I think apporx. 7cmx7cmx5cm or something. These are sheep-bad) And it is a nice way of attaching speakers to the PC (also, for some reason, my boss did not think well about buying seperate speakers but as these are attached to the monitor, well....).

I have 2x20"and the WS on the right. The thing is, I use SQL Server and Excel a lot. I prefer as much desktop real-estate as possible. I now pivot the WS for coding (portrait) or data analysis (landscape). 3 2407's would allow me to set up a coding in the center and two data analysis on the side.

That and I am a snob.

My setup at work, after my recent Dell order arrives will be:

-left: 20"W LCD in portrait mode (web browsing, application testing)
-center: 30"W LCD (visual studio)
-right 20"W LCD in landscape mode (SQL Management Studio)

I'm bringing my LCD's from home into my office and taking my CRTs that I have in the office home.

Yikes! I just read this on a review about the 2007FP. Can anyone confirm or deny?

This is a spectacular inexpensive monitor as long as you are using only one monitor and/or VGA. If you have a video card with only DVI-I support, you can use one of these monitors, but not two. What happens is that the "primary" monitor will come on, but the "secondary" monitor will enter "power save" mode during the boot up and not come back on. Dell's tech support was very nice, but their solution is: use the VGA inputs instead. Both of my monitors will be returned to Dell tomorrow.
