Ish! Yeah, they have one on ncix.com for 427$ CND, that can support 32gb ram. Would make for an awesome server! But if I were to purchase 2 FX-70's, that would easily triple the cost of the system, and that's just 2 cpu's and a mobo, that's it! Then there's ram, heatsinks, psu's and a video car to buy. Yeah ok, even if he does give me the parts (which at the price I don't think he will, but it's worth the try) it will still cost me my first born just to build a full system.

By the smilie you chose at the end I take it quad fx boards don't come cheap?
For what they are,and considering their upgradability options,they're not bad.....350$ on average,wich if you keep in mind that it'll get you into dual Barcelona Quad core chips later all,and use bog standard DDR2 modules to boot,is probably the lowest price ever for a motherboard with that capability.
The Intel option is much more expensive,since baseline dual socket boards that can handle dual Intel Quad core chips are 500$ and over,you're forced into getting Xeon chips,instead of desktop versions,wich are cheaper,and either use more expensive Registered ECC DDR 2 667 mhz,or the really expensive Full buffered DDR 2 ECC DIMM's,also limited at 667 mhz .
Add that those boards don't have any options to overclock,so it pretty much forces you to buy higher clock speed CPU's,no more free performance thru overclocking...
I don't think I want to overclock my primary dev rig, but it's nice to know that it's got the headroom.
I wonder why Intel hasn't released higher clocked chips?
With so much headroom they could really pants AMD when the Barcelona comes out.
I'll think they'll wait until AMD ship then go wham with a cheaper faster chip. One thing we don't want too see is AMD go under and there is a good chance of that.

Doubt it,and this isn't because i like AMD,since they're a business after all,but as of a few days ago,the German goverment lent them another 250+ million Euros(about 400 million US),to modernize Fab 36 in germany.
I doubt that the german goverment would be that dumb in lending that much,given that these things are researched inside and out before a deal is made....That evaluation no doubt also includes future processor releases from AMD....
I must admit I'm a huge Intel fanboy, but there needs to be healthy competition, and right now the only way AMD is competeting is by slashing prices. Lets hope Barcelona makes things a bit more interesting, but with some of the things Intel has on the way... (45nm, 32cores + by 2010...)

I really don't think buying ATI at a time when they should be focusing on CPUs was such a great idea.
I think that ultimately,they had to,since even intel has their larrabee project already in development,and i think that it was Tim Sweeney that made a comment a couple of years ago,that CPU's are being engineered to handle more tasks in parallel,while GPU makers are trying to add more flexibility into their own chips.....Sooner or later,both will basically overlap each other in terms of capabilities.
Wich i think that in the long run with the purchase of ATI,is what AMD has in mind,with their fusion project where both the CPU and GPU are integrated into the same Die....No need for add in video cards at least for the low end and midrange of the market,as 1 chip does it all,and ATI can use their expertise on the GPU part of things.
Discrete graphics chips will only be used in the high end market and those that require a lot of those cards running side by side,for a lot of graphics horsepower,such as render farms used for special effects in movies and such,perhaps even becoming fast enough for computer generated graphics that look indistinguishable from the real thing,IE digital actors.
