Yeah, a bit like. We used to run cards from a company that was later acquired by ATi IIRC. One of the best things you could do at the time was set an option that would maximise a program to occupy all screens on which it wass present when you'd click the max button.
e.g. Window on screen 2 only, maximise to screen 2, or
Windown on screens 2 and 3, maximise to screen 2 and 3.
Not what I want but at least better than what I have.
Currently I run a nVidia Quadra NVS 280 PCI and a nVidia GeForce 6600 LE and maximise will ALWAYS max to one screen only. Had the same experience with a Matrox G200 MMS BTW, either over one or all four screens.
