G400-processor combinations

I heard somewhere that the G400 is slower when used in combination with a Celeron-CPU. Is this true?

What about the G400 in combination with AMD-CPU's?

No matter what gfx card you use, a celeron operating at the same frequency as a true intel will allways be slower.

Ferdie, Celerons don't have SSE so they'll be a tad slower. Same with K6-2 & 3's but better performing.

Athlon's are in the same boat as P3's either using improved 3DNow or SSE.

Pentium 3 or Athlon is the way to go. For better overall compatibility go with the Pentium 3. For better overall speed go with the Athlon.

Both are great, and both are not without there own problems.

Actually, Celerons can be faster than equal speed P-IIs & P-IIIs for gaming when the game doesn't support SSE. The problem is that the G400 series seem to prefer higher speed processors. That means either spending lots of dough on an Intel processor, or going with an AMD. I've got three systems: one OC'd Celeron, and two OC'd P-IIIs. My next system is going to be an Athlon (counting the days now :0) And of course the G400MAX will migrate to that platform. The difference is that I'm spending $50 more for a 650 Athlon ($299 total) than I paid for a P-III 500 10 weeks ago, and $50 less than what I'd pay for a P-III 550E. (OK! I'll admit it! I just wanted to build an Athlon :^P)
