ctx vl950, 1600x1200 85 hz 18in viewable at sams this monitor has been renamed to pl9? (i bought one they put a sticker on the box with the new number.) i dont think its a trinatron tube in thouse (i thought trinatron tubes had those faint grid lines on them. and mine dose not have them. but my mag pro 17 doses.) the ctx is a "supper contrast tube with a invader mask." i find it nice and sharp on the text right up to 1600x1200 allthough i do prefer 1152x864 at 100hz for my desktop and games.

      Scout255,

Unfortunately all monitors which use Trinitron, (or Diamondtron if it's a Mitsibushi), tubes will have those faint lines going accross the screen that you described. The flip side of that is the picture quality is very good. ADI, CTX, Mitsibushi, Belinea etc. have models which use Trinitron tubes and will give a better picture than non-Trinitron models.

While everyone is saying how great their cheap monitor is, I will tell you the one I got to stay away from ... ViewSonic G790. I heard great things for reviews, but imho it sucks. It is horribly 'pixelated' if that is an adjective ... maybe I was just spoiled with my silky 17" trinitron tube. Anyway, don't get the G790, and I think I paid about $350.

          I'm not promoting cheap monitors...

I like my Mag DX715T too much, but people were asking for inexpensive units, I gave the information I knew about....

          I prefer the good stuff...

Thanks for the info guys, i'm gonna go with the ADI g66. Its one of their high end grafics monitors with a short neck design (takes up the same as a regular 17 inch) and has a great price around here.
