Just installed Windows 10. Everything nice, but I had to look a bit on how to install it without a MS account... It afterwards asked me for feedback why I wanted to install without an MS account, so I explained.

    Will Media Center return?

I have read one alternative I want to try: Modern Apps. If you consider that a mediacenter PC should look a bit like a smart tv, then this approach might make sense. Run the Modern Start Screen full screen, and navigate it with a remote. Apps for file browsing, media playback, online video viewing exist, so it might work. Just have to find an app that allow watching DVB-T...

There are a lot of media center apps you can get for Windows. jRiver Media Center, Sage TV, XBMC, and several more. All or most of those will have support for TV streaming for all the major world standards.

I'm testing them, but they all seem to get as much information from internet as possible, and I actually don't like it... Guess I'll have to keep looking to find one where I can at least switch off all that functionality...

Back on the Windows 10 topic:
I don't really like what they did with the start menu. If you click "All Apps" (I hate the word Apps for a PC, but that is a different history), it shows an alphabetical list. It seems a bit superfluous to show the letters of the alphabet in there. And at the moment it cannot be reorganized from the start menu interface.

You also can't drag them to the desk top as well only to the start bar and start menu. Can't drag them from the start bar to the desktop as well. Installed ClassicShell solved it.

Start menu and all the modern apps broke on my install of 9926, i use right click > search for launching apps.

There's a new desktop build coming soon supposedly early March, hoping update will fix my problem or I'll do the 3d clean reinstall of Windows 10.

I think I did not upgrade to 9926, I'm on the slow track... but I should check. Still, everything runs fine, I just have an issue with wake-up timers but I don't know if it is related to windows, bios settings or application...

Build 9926 has issues galore. Mainly because the addition of DX12 has caused all sorts of issues with various video cards.

It is my guess that this is why the next build has been delayed so long. Best wait for the next build before upgrading.

"It was validated by our test automation, and will go out through our internal rings and get installed and used by thousands of people at Microsoft. It is the freshest code with all newest features and fixes. If it passes all of our evaluation criteria it could be in your hands late this week or early next week."

In a very surprising move, Microsoft is extending it's free Win10 upgrade to those with pirated versions of Windows. And for all Windows users, not just Win7/8 users. For real...

Gabe Aul, who has become the quasi-official source for Win10 news via his Twitter and blog feeds, just announced that build 10041 is going out to Insiders on the Fast build program. Woo hoo!!!

Build 10041 kep rebooting on my pc, untill it reached a point where Windows offered a roll back to the previous build. I did that, but now I'm without start menu... Not sure how to fix it...

Right click on start menu > search > use search or Win+R instead of start. Of silly apps I only needed calculator, which I copied from older Windows version.
I want to back up all my data before upgrading (or clean install if start doesn't come back) as upgrade before hosed my profile (no problem because I had everything backed up).

I'm living without start menu for a month now.

Yes, but a bit annoying. The search box also stays on top of everyting. I'll try to upgrade again to 10041. The reboot loop was weird though: it boots as normal and shows the login screen. And logging in worked. But regardless of wether I logged in or not, it just suddenly rebooted after a few mintues, without an error message. Just once it gave a blue screen referring to win32kfull.sys, which I found may be related to the video driver. But the reboot happens too fast for me to check anything.

                              Try with a clean install.

Yes, that is the obvious step... But I reinstalled it just 2 weeks ago. And the reinstall had issues: it refused to install to my SSD when other harddisks were connected (same dvd that did not show this issue before). So reinstalling may mean opening the case, which means removing it from a shelf, ... Due to some small renovations, not really the best time for that now...
