    CHHAS:

it depends on the application you're using ... a full speed L2 cache is a real power horse when it's big enough, plus Intel enhanced their former L2 cache and that brought another speed boost.

ok, but not Seti, but RC5 .

Anyway, What really bothers me is that SETI doesn't makes optimized clients. I think that the Athlon with his 3way independent FPU is superior, in spite of the "slow" L2 cache.
I think RC5 has different clients or options for different CPU's, am I right? For example there is a new RC5 client which is optimized for the Athlon and brings about 30% speed boost with it.
I will stay with Seti either. Who wants to calculate strange 56bit keys anyway??

The RC5 client is a good optimized client for Athlon processors.
The Athlon really dumps any processor on the market with this client. (My friends PIII 500 makes 1.2Mkey/s and my Athlon 500(@700) makes 2.4Mkey/s and don'tell me the 200mhz can make 1.2 Mkey/s more).

I have switched my athlon to RC5 but will let my K6-2 400 on seti. So Jorden don't be afraid you'll be able to gain my place soon [I have to precise I was really proud to get in front of you ;-)].

750 units and still going strong!
What kind of system(s) is XenoSynth using when he(she) is abel to produce over a 100 units a day!

            Hi Ees,

Thanks for your reply. I've been away and I read just know.
That doesn't seem to be the problem . I'd already set it to "Run always" and yes it's a client version . Remenbver i said it loks like it runs faster whem i'm using the computer and slower when is not beeing used
Again , any ideas . I feel the need for speed (crunching WU's).

BTW, who cares about RC5 ? Of course giving enough time anybody can do it ? But helping a scientific project it looks to me more useful than finding ways to break keys ...

              AMC,

But is it also set to "blank after 0 minutes"?

It sound to me as if your computer is happily seti-ing along during the day, but then at night the screensaver kicks in. That will trash your WU-times. So, if you're using seti as screensaver, set it to blank after a short period. (For that matter, I think you can disable any screensaving, except for "blank screen" if you've set it to run always.)

The cmd-line version may still be faster though.

              Martin

Then again, maybe I'm just talking out of the back of my neck ; I don't use Windows that often...

                AMC,
I feel the same, i love seti more. In fact I sleep with it every night....
But the clients could use some optimisations, or not?

Damn!! I was watching over my shoulder (again) for Bob&Sons when I got run over by a bus called Xenosynth. Bob, we've got some work to do to make it into the top 40. See you there.

Jord, good point! Maybe I should try this..

If Xenosynth gets up into the Top Ten, we are all lost.
