I skipped the @home stuff - told their "Technician" to give me the info and take a hike. (He still got it wrong )

I installed my "Firewall" using BlackIce Defender, and threw MSICS out the friggin window as it doesn't work for more than 2 ethernet connections (at least I was unable to make it work after 3 days of hacking around...)

I solved the problem with Nat32+, a superior product IMHO, although it comes at a cost.

I now have the @Home cable modem attached via a USB->10/100 adapter (SMC), then my GF's pc is connected via 3Com 10Mbit phone line network (in the other side of the apartment), and then a 3c415 to my 10/100 Allied Telesyn 8-port switch, which leads off to my W2K Pro "File/Print server" and W98SE gaming system.

The Firewall is a little compaq presario 5204, upgraded to a K6III-400, w 64MB SDRAM, which I've got total of about $50 wrapped up in (aside from the networking components).

The configuration works well, and since I've got DHCP servers on both "Networks" I can attach multiple PCs and jump on the web, all while using my 1 little IP address.

Anyways, I would probably copy down the info for the network, and flush the system and start over. The @Home stuff get's into the system and totally b@$tardizes the Internet Eplorer (if that's what you want to call their @Home 2.0 crud).

        Steve-
I already got my JetDirect stuff worked out (office network). Was having a hard time getting the net to see the plotter through the hub, but it's all working dandy now...

As far as the other stuff, it's kinda been put on the back burner for a breakdown week...Sunday my 21" monitor broke down, and yesterday my car...what will break down today (besides my mental stability?)

Kruzin, this site might help: http://www.dslreports.com/metashare

Yes, it says DSLReports, but its broad enough to cover cable as well. As for the IE5 problem, copying down network settings and reinstalling windows sounds like a good idea.

cjolley, thats why i went with DSL too. And cable isn't available in my neighborhood yet. But for GOOD DSL, you gotta pay a lot.

You also have to be lucky!
            I have a guarenteed 384k connection.
When they tested my line it hit 1400bps.
If it had hit 1500 they would have locked me at 384.
If I had been farther from the CO it would have been lower, closer to the CO and it would have been locked down.
            Lucky, Lucky.

we've had cox@home for quite a while out here heck my friend works at the tech support center maybe i could squeze somethin out of him but from what i've seen and heard there are 2 ways that work well 1: bite the bullet get the hub and rent the second IP 2:Wingate this is the program i heard works the best and i also heard you can download a free copy for a second IP but if you want more then you gotta buy it... That's what i know.

                Hi,

I had the same problem and finally found the solution:

To remove the autoload of the @home proxy settings:

1.) Go to the Start Menu

                2.) Go to Run

                3.) Type regsvr32 /u ahiehelp.dll

                Found the solution at:
                http://www.timhiggins.com/support/sticky_proxy.htm

                Hope that helps.

                  Autopilot-
You DA man! (unless yer female, then yer DA woman )

I am not at home to try that fix right now, but I will when I get home, and let ya know if it works for me. It's certainly a better sollution than a full reinstall

Well, Autopilot, that was it on the nose
Got rid of that automatic @home proxy crap, and BAM, everything started working the way I wanted it to.
Webwasher now works properly, and is even acting as a proxy server for my other PC.
this is how it's supposed to work

                    Thanks!

Now....anybody know how to run an internet game (HL/TFC, UT, etc) through a proxy?

                      kruzin,

right now, i am running HL/UT etc. through a firewall, but im not sure if it will work on a proxy program.

what program are you using for your proxy, maybe it is possible to open the specific ports for each game.

                        I'm using Webwasher ( www.webwasher.com ).
It works as a handy (and free for home users) little proxy, as well as filtering out all those nasty ad banners.

i'm not exactly sure if you can use halflife though a proxy such as that, i beleve you may have to add ports in your proxy config so that you can send and recieve data to the game servers.
If you want to go the easy route, you can do this.
Purchase WinProxy (great little proxy program, maybe $30 US, it was around 50 Can)
                          website <a href="http://www.winproxy.com">here</a>
this great little program allows unlimited userers to share one IP address.
What you have to do is put 2 NIC's in the server, set one's IP to 90.0.0.1, and the other to automatic IP. Then you install winproxy and plug the other computer into the NIC card that you set the ip for.
It works perfectly, and is that easy to setup. You can set security level, the type of proxy server (i.e weather it allows only browser access, or games too).

kruzin, maybe you should sygate, <url>www.sygate.com</url>, the program is only used on the server, it has DHCP access, there is only one cfg file for port access, there is firewall access, and more, basically it has everything you will need.

here is a trial and if you like it(like i did) you can buy it for $40(well it was less when i got it).

personally i have had problems with version 3.11(eg, it doesnt work) so i use 3.0.
