Nehal - Start up your computer and when the cpu starts to get somewhat hot, see if the heatsink is getting hot also (touch it - not the fan ). It should be hot as well. If it is hot, then you have good thermal contact and it is probably your fan got fried (might seem ok, but a little slow is bad). If the heatsink is cool or only slightly warm, then you probably need to remove the heatsink, clean it off, and reassemble it with new heat transfer paste (Radio Shack). Assemble it carefully and make sure the heatsink sits flush against the processor core.

If the fan is bad, try to replace it or buy a new heatsink/fan combo.

nehalmistry, could it be that the fan is supposed to run off 12vdc and it's connected to 5vdc? I've seen this happen before.

Yoshie, Are you telling us whom have slower systems to upgrade? Because if you are, BITE ME! I don't see him complaining about lack of power... just that he was curious if a 100mHz bus would make a difference. I do this myself when bored and everyone here knows that!
      (Greebe the perpetual tweaker

The only need for the power you're suggesting is 3D gaming, high end graphics and or video editing. My slowest machine runs a Cyrix PR166 @ PR233 (ie 188.5mHz)... and works fine for the wife. All she does is occasional solitair, smurfing the net, bookeeping (Quicken, and Quickbooks Pro) and MS Office '97 Pro.
I on the other hand use it for my gateway to the net and to slooooooowly crunch seti WU's.

It'll do Viper Racing and Forsaken for when relatives children are present. But to be honest, it wasn't build up to do gaming.

Now if you wish to continue that imature BS on begging his parents for more money to get what would please YOU... then you can take a hike.

well i took of the fan, cleaned all the dust out of the heatsink, pushed the heatsink and the cpu together, put everything back, and again set it to 100 bus fr. and x3 mult. and now it goes to about 42 degrees celsius and when i play games it goes couple degrees up...

        is 42 degrees ok?

his parents wouldnt buy him anymore comp
sh*t...and dont be putting words in my mouth by saying I said anyone with a "slow" comp. should upgrade...Anyone can do whatever they want...its obvious that hes not happy with the performance of his comp. or else he wouldnt have "tweaked" it...all I advised is maybe its time to spend a few $$ and I get blasted...Im sorry to offend but maybe you
guyz should lighten up and take the advice
            for what its worth(nothing,nil,nada,or "gee

YOSH12: OH SHIT, i wasnt whining, the only reason i said that my parents wouldnt buy me anything is cos you were suggesting that i buy new stuff and i was telling you why i couldnt you stupid retard. i wouldnt have even mentioned anything about money if it wasnt for u. so shutup.

and if you are wondering why i dont get a job, up here, in Vancouver, Canada, it is very difficult to get a job, especially during summer. I have probably been to every fast food joint and havent got a reply once. Not one place has a "job opening" sign on it, and as soon as i cross over to america every other store has one.

i dont think that i hafta answer back to you but i wanted to get some things straight.

Nehalmistry: Wow.. First time I have heard of a native Vancouverite here on the MURC forums... As Brian said, if the HS is cool/slightly warm, the connection isn't very good. Another thing you could try(if you have the time) is stick in the old CPU and see if that causes a rise in temperature as well. If your temp still rises, then your mobo heat sensor could be messed up.... What about how your computer is setup at home? Case off? Dusty computer? Maybe you shuffled the dust onto one of the heat sensors on your mobo... :P

Nehalmistry - Since you disassembled the cpu, I hope you replaced the heat-transfer system between the cpu and the heatsink. Probably doesn't work as well as it's supposed to anymore. May be cooler, but you may have hotspots.

YOSH12: you got a problem, you are only one on this forum who has complained about me not buying anything, if i had money a car would be on my list first. i have no complaints about my system, my primary reason for using a computer is MP3's and my computer can more than handle that, i just wanted to see how far i can push what i had, thats all, so all i have to say is STFU MF.

GREEBE, BRIAN R: Hi, actually all i did was take the fan off of the heatsink and clean the heatsink from the top, the heatsink has always been attached to the cpu, therefore i dont think there is a problem there.
