Help - Dead Computer

Anyone know what the following series of beep code mean from an ABIT BE6-2 motherboard (Award)?

High low high low high low...ect.

Sounds like a European police car

Have dead computer - need advice to prevent extensive troubleshooting. All I could find on the web is a reference to memory problems for any beep code other than the familiar one for no installed video.

hmmmm... never heard of that one before, it could be the heat sensor for ur CPU (or another MB componenet) going off... but i guess you let it cool before trying again..

or it could be a component that isnt connected properly such as a cable or maybe your cpu fan

just a guess though... im not sure.... if none of those work try taking out/disconnecting every device and every hd and cdrom etc... then put stuff in one by one (starting with vid card off course) until you find the problem... there might not be any other way

On my Asus K7M this particular alarm is set off when my motherboard believes there is a problem with the fans or something overheating.

I know you have an Abit, but we might hope they standardized those beeps. (L'espoir fait vivre).

What I'd try is enter the bios and put on "Ignore" every thermal monitoring system (CPU temp, Mthb temp, case cooling, cpu cooling,...)

On my BF-6 and my previous mobo that sound was caused by something tripping a temperature alarm.

No idea why it should happen straight away tho (unless one of the alarms in your BIOS has got set very low for some reason).

That's definately a heat sensor, you will need to either raise the temp in the bios or disconnect the probe from the board

Pace, don't you know? The mess doesn't become stinky until they get a bit older. This was natures way of getting the parents used to doing the changing, then BAM! here, smell this.

Getting back to the subject at hand, I am unable to access the BIOS screen. The beep sequence (which never seems to end, by the way) I described occurs before any video appears, right after the drives are tested.

I have replaced both the memory and the processor without effect.

The dip switches on the mb have been set to default and the CMOS has been reset using the jumper. Now that I've defaulted the BIOS, once in a while, the POST screen appears with the memory count, but the computer will not go beyond this point. Reseting brings on the European police again.

I've made sure the CMOS is fully seated - no effect. I have no thermistor attached to the mb. Everything is internal.

The fans for the processor are working correctly, for both processors I've tried. All cables are tight.

Bad MB?

Suggestions please...
