Hey Xortam, it was just a joke

It is nice that you have taken the time to look that post up and post it here, thanks again! But I'm looking for image quality, and if a monitor should display the greatest image I've ever seen, a short neck tube won't hold me back from buying it

Anyways, I'm off to bed now.. gn8, and keep on posting! (especially if someone knows about the G420, looks quite nice!)

The Sony GDM-F400 19inch .22mm 1600x1200 FD Trinitron Monitor is the finest monitor I've ever owned. Paired with the G400Max, a remarkable aperture grille pitch of 0.22mm and the flattest Trinitron display ever, you really do get unprecedented image performance. If quality is your primary concern, then take a close look at this one.

The built-in 4 port USB hub is a nice touch, with the actual ports intelligently placed in the (rear)monitor base, easy to get to, but not visible from the front.

Of course, the all important Sony menu controls are superior to most monitors. Yes, it is pricey but well worth it, even if you're not a graphics/CAD professional. Compared to other quality monitors in this class/price range, e.g., iiYama Vision Master Pro (450/510) or Mitsubishi's DiamondTron natural flat series, this one deserves your consideration.

It's not a "best buy" or a compromise, it's simply one of the very best monitors out there. The newer 21" Sony models (with similar specs) are even more expensive. It may not be easy to find the F400, as most vendors sold out quickly.

If you can't afford the GDM-F400, buy the CPD-G400. (I've got one) Excellent display, as long as you can "tolerate" the 2 horizontial lines.

Hey, I know! Matrox ought to get into the monitor business! Perhaps that's what the "fusion" line of mystery cards are... a monitor with a built-in video card hooked up to the computer via a USB connection or something similar. Ok, maybe not... but I bet you could sell it if you marketed it right

I've got a Samsung 900SL+ too, I'm very happy with it, it's not too expensive and the small footprint is really great

I have the Sony 420GS. It's a good monitor. People come over and say "wow, that's beautiful," no exaggeration. I have tons of geometry control (a little less than the G400, but not much), and the monitor is all-around cool. The brightness button is great, I use it for 3D and movies, and don't have to mess with gamma in my Display Properties. I had to send a few back, I blame shipping bruises.
I looked at a lot of shortnecks (and about every 790 ViewSonic made). The shortnecks had a reputation for blurriness in the corners.
If I had to guess, I'd say that the attached cable both reduces cost, and reduces the signal degradation that another interface would cause. A BNC is the only thing this monitor didn't have, but I gave up looking for that.

                  SONY!!!!!!!!

I have used other brand monitors with the Diamondtron Tube (Mitsubishi) such as a Gateway 1100 and I have an NEC-950 at work now. I still prefer SONY's Trinitron tube. Screw the two lines (wires) that support the aperature grill. They are so fine these days that you barely notice them.

My wife has an Hitachi Ultrascan 19" which she took to work and a Viewsonic PS-790 at home. Neither has the picture quality of the SONY Trinitron

I prefer the SONY picture quality so much that I got their 24" GDM-FW900, .23mm Dot Pitch, a month ago.
My second display is a 21" Dell Trinitron.

Also if you run your monitor at 1024 x 768 or above DO!! get a BNC cable. My SONY came with a BNC cable.

I would get the SONY G400, G420 or the GDM-F400. The .22mm Dot pitch on the GDM-F400 will make you have to change your shorts No SHIT!!!

                    Hey az,

Let us know how you like it when you get it. I've given up looking for a 'good' 21 inch monitor (bought two diff. models, both had problems and I returned them). Now I am looking at 19 inch models instead. I'm waiting till the G420 hits the 'states'.

                    Thanks in advance,
                    -AJ

I think I'm gonna get the Sony G420.. It's one beautiful piece of hardware, and it promises both high quality picture and features. The only two things that bother me are the fixed cable and that it doesn't have a BNC connector. (Is this a major issiue? G420 users: Is the supplied fixed cable high quality, or should I go out and buy another one and use the second VGA in? I don't want to cripple my monitor.)

AJ: It'll be quite a while till I buy it - it's not available in germany yet as well, and I have no money until in two months anyway, just thought I'd ask some time in advance so I'll have time to look through the offerings - but I'll let you know anyway

                            not at all !!!

those monitors really kick äss and I using Eye-Qs for about two years now ...

IMHO, Eye-Q is on par with Sony's and Viewsonic's higher class monitors.

Whew! And they are cheap, too? I want a Sony because it's nice to have a monitor with a "Sony" sign on it, but for that reason I'd rather have an Eizo
