I too have the MX300 and it has been working fine in w2k from the start. The native drivers work fine. Check to see if the via drivers are getting in the way. I'm not using a via MB so that is my first thought. Running newest drivers for vid card as well.

    Hope this helps some.

Tp, Your suggestion worked great.. I retro installed the 5.14 drivers.. (apologise for questioning you previous driver statement..The 5.04 was the only one listed on matroxusers site..) And I also changed my card to the number 2 PCI slot.. I played Counterstrike last night for about 2 hours with no problems.. Tonight I have had the sound drop instantly on the 3dmark 2001 Demo.. I'll try getting rid of the Via drivers.. C if that makes a difference.. The only other thing I can see between our setup is that I use win2k sp2..

Duty Mate, Looking around various forums I think the problem is mainly Via chipset MBs.. Thanks for the info anyway!!

One question. Does A3D 2.0 work properly and stable? With the latest drivers I had at the time, HL crashed out after a minute or so whenever I enabled A3D. If A3D works great and all is stable, I may very well chuck this SBLive! Platinum 5.1

Recommend you try this site. It workd well on my wifes machine, although she is not into gaming. For straight windows I have had no problems.

I already know of Vortex of Sound. A3D works indeed, but it still locks up. It just takes a lot longer (like an hour or more). It used to lock up after 10 seconds. I can't really use it until it's 100% stable, so the SBLive! is back in

I was playing CS last Night for several hours.. No problems.. I'm using the latest G400 MAx drivers.. Win2k service pack 2.. DirectX 8.. Via 4-1 4.29..

Don't think CS has ever run so smooth.. And I get pings Avg 40 points better in NT compared with Winme! I'll have a check through my games see wherer a3d is used and how it runs when enabled..!
