That's because the OS already has the very same inf for your chipset, and installing them again would be redundant.

Hmm, so that means Intel never updated the drivers for the BX since Win2K was released?

Obviously. There's no need to update something which does not have any problems.

and it's not a 4in1, but more a driver set for the DMA controller, PCI-to-ISA bridge, CPU-to-AGP controller, CPU-to-PCI bridge, parallel, serial, USB, IDE/ATA33/ATA66 and what ever
This is also what the VIA 4 in 1 driver set do??

Ah, found this: http://www.supermicro.com/PRODUCT/Mo...DC6%20SPEC.htm

So, dual P4 Xeons...yummy

Interesting to see how they perform against Dual Athlon. Does anyone know what the current P4 SMP situation is?

Those Intel "Drivers" are mereley substitutes for the INF files delivered by the OS to
1. recognize the chipset
2. set registers of the chipset according to
the capabilities of the chipset
3. enable chipset features otherwise not used by the OS not by adding kernel mode drivers as VIA 4-in-1 drivers do but in switching existing drivers supplied by the OS to the appropriate mode by using registry flags
BM-IDE drivers are available separately and are not necessarily needed for proper functioning of the controller. I wouldn't be too worried about installing them if the OS already recognizes the chipset (especially 430FX/430HX/430TX or PII/III chipsets such as the 440LX/BX. It makes sense though to install them if your OS doesn't already know the I815/820 and so on.
Statements from the installer that indicate proper support is already available simply tell you that your Chipset Information does not need to be altered for the OS to recognize the motherboard components.
