Depends on what you want out of it... for 3D games Vortex2 can't be beat... for professional audio editing SB Live (not value) can't be beat in the _consumer_ market. SB live val is a good card, but doesn't get anywhere near Vortex2 3d positioning. It's simply Creative... like Epson, 3COM, Adaptec, Microsoft, Intel, you know...

Well, Steve, I'd say yes, but then you couldn't go to Alton Towers with the guys next week--have fun, btw--and I wouldn't want you to miss Oblivion...! Plus I'd have to pony up for the medical bills (or at least send flowers), and I'm broke.

Doesn't that crap under your desk stink?

Matt, is that what you call support? Geez, with friends like you, etc., etc....

Thank you MM for a calm voice of reason. I couldn't figure out how to reasonably state my fundamental resistance to PC hardware hegemonies...

I just installed an SB Live value in my new system. It's GREAT!!!! More features than I will ever use.

            Buy.com has them cheap $50.95

Yeah like paul said...and be sure to stay away from Powder Sniff I heard it can really mess up your display...and you may have to flash your bios. (flashback for all of you pauls out there)

I've never heard an MX300 card, but one of the reasons I bought a SB (AWE64, no Live yet), is because they kept the Line Out clean. No pre-amp. That really matters to me, since noise generated by my old sound card would be amplified by my stereo, and give me a supersonic headache.
Does the MX300 have a clean Line Out, no amp, and separate from the speakers?
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

If you want sound you can go with whatever(they all make sound),
but if you want music you go for Yamaha SW1000XG.

And Holly, all sound is analog.

Wombat, I'll check, but if you see Flangor or Jammrock around, you might ask one of them (I think they're more likely to know wtf you're talking about , and they're both familiar with the MX300, to judge by their posts on the aforementioned thread forums.gagames.com/forums/Forum58/HTML/000248.html in 'General Hardware')

If all sound is analog, rubank, what's the function of spdif (and the proprietary digital DIN)? I thought they provide digital output (as opposed to the analog output of the RCA (or whatever they are) plugs. No need for the asbestos suit, just asking (plus I'm still using it).

Just keep it up, Paul. I'll give you something to bump map (grr, grrrrr!) !!

I'm not dealing well with being outflanked by you guys, I guess....sigh. S'alright, I'll have my day....

when actually HEAR digital sound, you might need yet another kind of therapist

                                Guys Guys Guys,

Seems Holly needs a little help here, and I'm siding with her

We're both zipped up in our asbestos suits, and we can take you on alive... or dead... your choice.

My simple soundcard btw is a SB 32 PnP, and it's only still sitting there because this way I can record mp3's, mods and xms on my stereo !! The SB 128 and Live I had temporarily couldn't handle it.

Glancing to my right, Holly, ready to fight them??

                                Jorden, bitten allready

P.S: Steve, no matter how we do it, you're coming along to Alton Towers and we're just going to LOOK at the Oblivion
