ever since i have had win95 ive formated my hard drive lots of time. SO win98 has being installed as a full update, not on top of win95.

i searched through the registry and deleted all windvd thingies and it still crashes with the same error as before

UMMM... i think my windows version is
    4.10.1998
im not quite sure if thats right, so if its not where do i get the version numbers from?

mragsdale: Oh God is that ever the truth!

Not only is it tough getting an overwrite upgrade to work right but installing DVD's on any Win98 install can be a pain.

When I first got my Toshiba SDM-1202 DVD I had a helluva time getting it to work.

Windows98 would never properly mount the drive. It tried to install it as a CD, Generic DVD and everything else BUT as a Toshiba.

I cursed everything on the system until I finally performed the right "magic": I wiped Windows98 and did a total reinstall. That did it!

The problem was that Windows98 itself was mucking up the hardware install. For some reason the Windows Setup HW installation works but the one in Windows98 proper doesn't.

I wish Gates would fall off a cliff....
