  • Where are the G400 cards assembled?

    Hi!

My G400 card says that is assembled in China.

If so then why can't Matrox ship some G400 Max to Hong Kong asap?

Where are your G400 cards assembled?

    Regards,
    Manoj Mahtani

My MAX and Plain 32MB DH says made in Canada. They may make their OEM cards in China.

Well now I know why I got my G400 16megs Dual Head at a cheaper price.

YOu see my card came in the box and the sales guy told me that this is the box version and not the OEM version. But these local distributors are putting all the OEM cards in the boxes and make it look like full box version. Well the only difference I can see is that I didn't get the Expendable game and one other software. I have the DVD software and the DualHead cable.

I also have the feature connector on the G400 card.

I guess the G400 Max don't have OEM versions and so they are assembled in Canada and Ireland.

"White Box", "OEM", and "Bulk" are all the same thing.

The retail products come in colorful boxes with info all over them.

All DualHeads have the connectors for RR-G. Only the SH versions don't have all the connectors.

And no, MAX does not come in OEM...

Right now, MAX is only being assembles in Canada. Ireland is supposedly getting ready to start assembling them too...

My card came in a colorful box (with full discriptions on the box). I didn't get any games or manual.

Well my distributor told me that the plant in Ireland will start production in mid August. So anytime soon and then those cards are going to be distributed internationlly. Hong Kong is expected go get some Max by the end of the month. So I hope I get my Max soon.

Sounds like someone is re-packaging the oem version in the retail box there Manoj. All retail box cards should come with the full set of software.

It's probably just a different software bundle for that part of the world. That's often the case. I doubt anyone would "repackage" the card...where would they get the retail packaging?

Or someone could have accidentally put the wrong cd in the package. Does it say on the box that expendable is included?

                        No it doesn't say.

I got it from the distributor. The company was having a road show. The salesman told me that the games are bundled. I found out later that it wasn't in the box. In any case I returned the card and got a replacement since I had some problems with the previous card.

I told them about the manual and the game not being bundled and they opened the box and said that it wasn't bundled but then they were kind enough to tell me that if I call them up tomorrow then I can arrange to pick up the manual and the game from them during office hours.

                        Regards,

I have to agree with ManojM. The cards here in Hong Kong are repackaged OEMs.
I bought a G400 32M single display in a color box. From the information on matrox web site , there are only OEM versions of the SD. But mine comes in the retail color box and without bundle game. The local distributor must have repackage the OEM cards in their own boxs.
My card have a sticker with "Assembled in China". I found that the qaulity of these "China" card not really up to par. I had to return two defective cards to get a working one. All of them are assembled in China. The QC in Matrox China plant need some improvement.
By the way, I have to say the Matrox distributor in Hong Kong provide excellent and fast service, got my card back the next day I returned it. They even let me test the last card at their place before taking it home.

                            Spectra:

Which distributor did you get your card from?

I got the G400 16 megs Dual Head from Xander and my G400 Max will be coming soon and I have already pre-ordered it from Quasar. Infact, I am the first one to pre-order it.

I got the G400 16megs on Saturday and I had problems. Probably it was one of the defected ones. I went back to the distributor the next day and they replaced a new one for me. No problems!!

All card except for the max are assembled in China. There are some with the game bundles inside and that probably is assembled in Canada.

I got my G400 16M DH last week from TransAsia in S.S.P. It is from Quasar. Worked ok the first time I plugged it in. Made in China also.
I get one CD with driver/Techdemo/etc. and a nice G400 printed menu dated 5/14/99 together with the VGA-TV adapter.

You are lucky if Xanders throw in Expandable game CD for you. I don't think Quasar include game with their package. In their site they advertise they have a separate shipment of G400 bundled with game at a higher price.

Anyway it is nice to have some local G400 users in this forum.

                              Have fun, GTI.
