Ok, refresh rates. They do make a difference. Why? Just think about it, going from 120Hz to 60Hz at 1280xwhatever is reducing the load on the video card's ram by half. The ramdac has to access video card to generate it's signal to send to the monitor, while it is doing that, nothing else can access the ram. SGRAM doesn't mean dual ported, it just means that it caches two areas of ram instead of one like SDRAM. At 800x600 the refresh rate doesn't matter so much, it's only when you get to the higher resolutions you'll see dramatic changes in performance based on refresh rate.

As for the specific numbers, I blame MS. Try reinstalling Win98, personally I don't have the time to muck with win98, it's even slower than win95, and I have twice as much to turn off, the whole explorer is a web browser thign irks me to no end.

If you , ragsdale, get 400 fps in q3 than maybe there is something wrong with YOUR system . (btw , from what i have understood the timedemo benchmark in q3 measures the
time and the amount of frames and than produces the fps , so the slower the system is the MORE TIME it takes to complete the benchmark )

If i post that the g400(max) has problems with monitors than i didn´t mean that it is definitely a hardware problem , but that it IS a problem no matter where it originated !
(i would be very happy if this is just a driver problem !)

Generally i can say that when i provide you all with info (100hz/60Hz problem) it is NOT clear or obvious that i want you to help me .
I just want that you know that there IS a problem !! If someone knows how to achieve the same performance at 100hz as at 60hz, then i will say "thx" and if not , then not !

Ragsdale , if a card costs 250$ then i think benchmarks are VERY important , ok ?
Else i would still play on my V1 (hehe).

I know benchmarks are important but it just seems to me that some people just benchmark and benchmark and on and so on.....

I really don't think a few marks are gonna hurt much if at all, I know it depends on what you use it for, I'm a gamer too.

I don't know, maybe its just me but why don't you just use it, play it, it seems to be a waste of money to me if all you do is benchmark it. If its not running right, try to fix it.

I have v2sli , a tnt2ultra from creative and since august 2nd a g400max .
If you don´t believe me that i really own a g400max ask me about every detail on the circuit board (resistors etc....) and i will prove it.

Now the tnt2ultra is in my pc and the g400max lies on my desk waiting to be put into my pc again when drivers mature . For now opengl performance is too slow for q3 ..so i NOW use the tnt2ultra !

Please don´t be envy that i have the money to buy whatever computer system i want

All my computer parts are running absolutely stable and at the correct speed now .

The only one that helped me really (though unintentionally) was slartibartfast when he said that the monitor can affect performance and stability of the g400(max) AND NOT KRUZIN !

And heh , kruzin , come on , have you never hugged your dad or another friend of yours that was not a girl ?
You better check if the feminine side of your personaltiy gets enough attention from you ;-) (don´t think that i am a homo , my girlfriend is seven years older than i am ...she is pretty too ;-)

At the risk of bringing this thread back on track...

Deprived - I'd be interested in seeing your benchmark numbers with and w/o VSYNC again, but using a different benchmark: http://www2.datatip.de/cgi-bin/downl...s/pcp3dbch.exe

Although dated, this benchmark is small (~560k to DL), finishes up quickly, gives fairly consistent results, and the difference between VSYNC on and off will be clearly reflected in the numbers. Moreover, with VSYNC ON, you should be able to measure the effect of different refresh rates on performance.

I'd be curious to see your scores at 640x480x16bpp (the default) under the following conditions:

1. VSYNC ON, 60Hz
2. VSYNC ON, 75Hz
3. VSYNC OFF
