Here's something really deep for you to chew on, smiff:

Many people are playing games online with the G400 without the problems you are having using the same vid card and drivers you are using. That leaves only your ISDN card.....now think really hard, YES, it could be drivers for your ISDN adapter yes, yes, yes.

well, from your last post, it sounded like you where trying to u/l or d/l when playing, and that's when it gave you problems,

Sorry for not understanding your unclear post, and trying to clarify it.

There was no offense taken. Just try to use the help you are given. Try to use some different drivers for your ISDN adapter.
It sounds like there is some sort of software conflict going on.

Good point about other poeple managing ok... but has anyone out there got a G400 and specifically an AVM-Berlin FRITZ!Card PCI? If that's you, please let me know how you did it. I'm not hopeful on the drivers front 'cos its an obscure (?) german company

I'm going to give the downclocking a go now, back in a sec.!

AVM is not really that obscure, try this page right here for information on how to get drivers for your card: http://www.avm.de/english/service/index.htm

Thanks Rags. OK i've tried putting the celeron back to 300. No difference

I'm just emailing AVM tech support, see what they know...

The newest (english) drivers are dated 17-Dec-98, so kind of ancient really. I'll try the newer german ones...

I also tried shuffling around IRQs - no effect either. Grrrrr. Not a good situation.

Waiting for replies from Matrox & AVM

well, ihave the same problem with my bewan 128 and open gl games. same thing with my
us robotics modem (rtc). d3d games runs
properly either with the isdn and the modem

so it s certainly a matrox driver problem...

Hey Lamer, nice to know i'm not alone! I'm just gonna go try a Direct3D game...Blood2 will do I think...

...ok that was fun i've done 5 mins on gamespy, 10 minutes on my own, and guess what: no lockups! BUT the jerking is still there, not as bad as in OpenGL but still pretty dire Is your card totally smooth in Direct3D?

How can you be sure its the Matrox drivers that are at fault, and not your ISDN card? I agree that its most likely the G400 (since my TNT worked fine) but I don't know for sure.

Anyway, do you think someone ought to tell Matrox about this quickly? I've sent them a couple of emails, no reponse yet but it is the weekend so fair enough. You could do the same maybe?

my g400 is totally smooth with direct3d games midtown madness and combat flight simulator are great in the ms gaming zone...

i test with my modem : opengl games crash
new test with my voodoo3 2000 : no problem
                          on the net.
so the isdn card is not guilty... a friend has an us robotics isdn card and have the same problem... let s wait for better opengl drivers and see the difference (perhaps in the incoming 5.20)

                            Hi..

i've had the same problem, but with halflife... normal game works, when i played a net game it locked up..

                            forcing AGP1x solved my problem

                            Dan.

If you even think of trying DirectGL (shudder), be SURE to make backups of your Opengl32.dll and Glu32.dll in you windows\system folder. DGL will replace those files with it's own version, and not put the proper files back when you un-install it after finding out it's worse than the Matrox ICD.
