Well folks, once again Matrox messes up. In my area, there is NOT ONE STORE that carries the new G400 (of any flavor, specially the MAX). Now I could have lived with it being a slight bit slower than a TNT2 Ultra, but now, with not one G400 in a store yet, NVidia is about to release its new GeForce256 based on the all new VN10 in just a bit! If Matrox really wanted SALES, they should have had the card in stores months ago! Now they will be obsolete even before it is in stock! What a WASTE! But I guess it saved me from wasting my money, so I should be happy, I guess. But I really wanted to return to the Matrox fold, but I guess NVidia has me now.

3dGPU.com is mentioning that there are heat problems w/ the first GeForce cards. Elsa has a workaround, but not until Nov.
I wish graphics chip companies would just stop the wicked early hyping. Start filling the distribution channel, then start hyping...not hyping months before the chip even exists (Permedia3, etc.). Damned annoying to consumers, but they seem to just keep trying to out-hype each other <sigh>-:

Sorry Helm, but you must be talking about a different Mike. I have been a Matrox user for many years, just ask Ant. I was one of the original cast on the Matrox "List". I also used to help out doing some Matrox Tech Support on the Beta and early days of MSN. But when Matrox created the Mistake, they lost me. Sure I had one, but it was so darn limited, that I didn't keep it very long. And I kept hoping that Matrox would finaly get in gear and beat 3Dfx, but instead they went with the NEC chip, duh! And then came the G200, pretty but SLOOOOOW. Now the G400 has been talked about for quite awhile, yet can not be found in any store (CompUSA, Fry's, Best Buy, Micro Center, nor mom & pop stores). I have a TNT now, but really wanted a G400 MAX. But now with the GeForce coming soon (even if December, that is just around the corner), why spend my money on the G400 now? My regular TNT is doing just fine till the GeForce is released.
No, I am NOT another LUCA - what I say makes sense, and I am not whinning - I just wish a company I had faith in, and am friends with some of them as well, would get in gear and be back on the cutting edge again, and have the product available in a timely manner.

Audi drivers just don't accept failures.
FWIW, I guess Matrox must be a pretty relaxed employer... Where I come from (in professional context) failures of this kind are not accepted. I would be swiftly replaced with someone using his resources in a more efficient way.
Having said that, the tech guys at Matrox have done a great job on the G400MAX, so you might consider Ant's advice. Really Mike, that GeString is not what you think it is...P3@600 | Abit BH6 V1.01 NV | 256MB PC133 | G400MAX (EU,AGP2X) | Quantum Atlas 10K | Hitachi CDR-8330 | Diamond FirePort 40 | 3c905B-TX | TB Montego A3D(1) | IntelliMouse Explorer | Iiyama VisionMaster Pro 17 | Win2K/NT4

I don't know where you live Mikey-boy but at leat here in finland G400 max have been available for a couple days and vanilla G400 much longer... And what comes to that GeForce thing if it's based on completely new design, it will take quite some time before it will hit to shelves and have mature drivers. If you are going to wait to that, take it easy because you have to wait long time... and by the way @ the time you get your GeF there will be a couple of new Graphchips announced... Happy waiting.. (While I enjoy my G400)-J-

Ant, my dear friend! I miss you and the old list SO MUCH! And so do many of the old bunch I keep in contact with!
As for online stores, I hate them. I'd much prefer going into the store, looking at the product, and being able to buy it and return it if I don't like it - and without the hassles and charges of shipping it back.
Oh, and Ant - even the Matrox store did not have them in stock for the longest time, nor the online stores I did check out.
And who is SCYTALE? Is that Ray??? Who else would know what I drive/race???
As for the GeForce, on the RivaZone, it is mentioned that Creative Labs will have theirs out late this month or early next month.
Lastly, I am NOT bashing Matrox's products, but the lateness they bring their products to market, usually after all their hype about features is already surpassed by others.

Funnily enough, since you started a certain web site, and a certain canadian company has sent you more graphics cards than you'll ever need.

Cheers,

Mike, I didn't know there was anyone left on the Net not knowing what you're driving/racing...
Steve, a certain graphics company never sent Ant anything before a certain G-series came in the picture, and then only after a lot of 'nagging and whining'.
Don't think that it takes loyalty to improve things, it takes critisism and appreciation where due... fairness if you like.

Has nothing to do with vsync. The 5.21 ICD is slower, period-end-of-story. I have thoroughly tested each one. Vsync on/off. If you dont believe me load up Quake 3 test and run demo1 with the 5.21 and 5.13. Watch the tremendous slowdown with the 5.21 ICD, it gets to around 1fps during very heavy action, and when alot of blood is on screen. And it isnt just in the timedemo, it is in regular play. It is completely unacceptable. The 5.13 did not exhibit the same problem - this really isnt an issue except matrox will take months to update the driver - cannot argue with history.
