You can download those G200 drivers from the matrox site as well. They are quite old.

    Win2k Drivers

Was idling along and saw this http://www.betaos.com/drivers/v371b157.zip.
Supposed to be alpha g200 drivers for win2k
G200 only though, no mention of G400 in the inf. If Win2k didn't take so long to install on my machine i'd test it to see if there is any difference using it vs the nt4 4.22 drivers. Being an idle sort I might do it anyway.

I have used the NT4.0 4.12 drivers with my Max for quite some time now. I can't imagine why M hasn't yet posted any win2k drivers at their homepage for the G400.

Guess it can be compared with the lazyness for g200's OGL ICD.

Or possibly that Windows 2000 is still a BETA OS?

Even thought it is still in beta stage, it is just a few months from rtm, and there currently is NO native drivers in w2k. I know someone at MS that searched their bug database and someone filed a bug against matrox for no w2k support for the g400 and it was closed as won't fix. It said that matrox can't get drivers out in time for rtm and to use the NT4 drivers.

A lot of manufactorers won't handle out any drivers before the freakin' OS is ready. Check Creative's site for example. No drivers?

But that doesn't mean they are not ready or being made. They just don't want people on their backs about drivers not working 100% on an OS that's not finished. They do have them inside the house, but there's no reason to give them to you before W2K is boxed.

Of course they wouldn't want to give them out. They might actually get useful feedback or something!

Seriously, does Matrox have what it takes to make decent 3D drivers for NT? Based on current offerings you would be pretty silly to buy a G400 if you are intent on moving to 2000 and want the fastest 3D. Maybe that is why they don't release beta drivers; it would only confirm people's suspicions.

Matrox corp. is very "hiding" and "secretive". It's two reasons for one to be this way: Bad leadership or questionable issues.

I belive we have a mix

Dammit I bought a new ISA ISDN card (eicon diva) just because it was impossible to get drivers for my old one (a dynalink).

So whenever someone says "they don't wanto give out drivers cus the OS is still beta" I wanna scream.

Seriously though, I now use RC2, and haven't seen a damn bug with either the OS nor the G400 drivers I've currently made working. Exept from no opengl nor direct3D. the TNT cards have both.

                There, happy now?

Buuri: OF COURSE you can't find drivers on manufacturers web sites yet! So, following your reason, I buy new OS, install new OS, and oh oh no drivers for any products natively on my OS. What I referring to is drivers that are NATIVE! And if you have the latest build of w2k (build 2128) which is rc2, there ARE native drivers for TONS of video cards. And yes new ones too. Riva has had drivers in for a long time now. What I am telling you is that matrox WILL NOT have any drivers included in the OS before RTM, which is still 2 monts min. away!

That is so lame. I can't believe that matrox puts out an awesome card and leaves it unsupported in the next generation OS.
Mine doesn't work in win2k and the only thing I can blame it on is my MB.

CitrixSCU, have you tried these things:

Installed drivers, booted in safe mode and forced AGP1x and busmastering dirabled through win2k reghacks (I'll send'em to ya if they are not on MURC downloadsite )

Removed everything except HD and videocard

And, I get BlueScreenOfDeath if I try to use the 4.22 drivers instead of the 4.21...

                      Just wonder where youre at

Who said that Matrox doesn't support Windows 2000? They only do not support pre-release versions of it.

                          Buuri,

You forget that both hardware and software developers are also using Windows 2000 to ensure products will work correctly. In fact the Windows 2000 readiness and certification programs have to operate on beta software or else there will be no "Windows 2000 Ready" hardware or software at the launch.

Take Quake 3 for example. It will be using OpenGL, Direct X (for sound) and SMP - this combination is only available under Windows 2000. Computer OEM's building 3D graphics or gaming machines on Windows 2000 aren't going to go near Matrox without some evidence of the capabilities of their drivers.

                          Paul.

                            Paul,

Developers in Win2K related stuff have alpha drivers for the G400. I don't blame M one bit for not releasing them to the general public. The general public is not supposed to have this OS yet, anyhow.

I'm afraid I have to side with the pessimists. Matrox's NT drivers suck for 3D, there is no reason to think Windows 2000 will be any different. To say Windows 2000 is still a beta OS is a justification for Matrox being behind in yet another area. I know my next OS will be Win2K, not Windows Millenium or whatever the next 9X kernel based OS is called, and when I switch over, I can't say I'll take my Matrox card with me. Their driver development just doesn't cut it anymore.
