  • MGATweak vs Matrox Tweak Utility

    with MGATweak i use these settings for my G400 MAX, fo=502.20 mhz, gclk=167.40, mclk=200.88, wclk=167.40...
    with the Matrox Utility if i put the slider to 10% several garbages appear on the screen, so i use 7 or 5%....
    I think the Matrox Utility simply rises the pll clock nothing more, victory for MGATweak ? Not sure, because i cannot see any fps differences with MGATweak or without, strange no ? Does MGATweak really work for the G400 ?
    If you known a reliable utility to check the fps ?

    playing with the dividers in MGATweak is not a good idea... from your Fo i see you took the divider way to high !!! the higher the dividers the lower performance u have (that I discovered from ALOT of testing) u must find the best why to get higher clk speeds with lower dividers... the best config I found with my Vanilla G400 DH 32MB was dividers set to 2.5/2/2.5 and Fo speed set to 401Mhz that will give you 160Mhz core and 200Mhz memory... another good config is not to change the dividers (2/1.5/2) and set the Fo to 300Mhz. this will give you 150/200.

    btw with the new Matrox program I get %120 without any problems.. its like setting the Fo speed to 303 and leave the dividers at 2/1.5/2

      The dividers can be set as high as you like, that has nothing to do with performance. As for not seeing a difference after overclocking, that is because at certain resolutions/colour depths, you are cpu limited and no amount of 3Dpower will make any difference. Try using higher resolutions, and you will definitely see a difference!

        Ok Marmita i followed your advices and use the Matrox Tweak utility rather than the MGA Tweak to overclock my G400 Max, so i put the slider to 104% for each resolutions, its working fine, more give me some garbles...
        Its fo=310.50mhz, gclk=155.25mhz, mclk=207mhz, wclk=155.25mhz, i think its hard to get more with a G400 Max
        By the way i have a problem in this forum, when i read for the first times the replies its ok but when new replies are posted my explorer 5 doesn't display the new replies !
        So i cannot even read my reply !
        If you have an idea please send me an email, thanks you.

          yup, if I go any higher than 155 core clock speed, I get a garbled screen. If I push it far above that, the machine enters guru meditation.

            MGATweak rulez!!! it is very transparent...you know what are you doing EXACTLY.....but you have to check when you change settings because when I tried 3/2.5/3 instead of 2.5/2/2.5 I experienced 3DMAX DECREASE!!! - so now I am back at 405 - 2.5/2/2.5 (162/202.5) and everything ok..

              I've not had chance to try Matrox Tweak yet but the MAX is very overclockable with the latest version of MGA Tweak. I'm currently running at Fo= 450 180/225 2.5/2.0/2.5 works perfectly in OpenGL but some graphic corruption in D3D. Works perfectly all round at F0=438.75 175/219, still playing around with the settings.

                Thanks for providing settings Ant.

                Gonna try those settings on Frankendrive and see what happens to my new MAX.

                Going to use Nitrous to cool it, but I have to work out the condensation problem first since NOS hits at -128 F. Maybe a dehumidifier.......

                    Hey guys,

                    I'd really like to know if anyone is using MGATweak on their Millenium G200, and if so, what are the best/fastest settings?

                    Thanks,

                      Here are a few Q2 demo1 benchmarks, 32bit colour, PIII 500, 5.25 + beta ICD, G400 MAX.

                      Normal speed 150/200

                      640 = 84.0
                      800 = 81.2
                      1024 = 70.0
                      1280 = 48.2
                      1600 = 26.5

                      Overclocked 175/219

                      640 = 84.2
                      800 = 82.2
                      1024 = 74.8
                      1280 = 56.0
                      1600 = 33.0

                      PIII overclocked at 585, MAX at 175/219

                      640 = 97.3
                      800 = 94.7
                      1024 = 80.4
                      1280 = 56.4
                      1600 = 33.0

                        At last, Matrox has his own overclocking utility after all I have been working on it. I have not tried it out yet as I don't have a G400. Hence, I cannot comment on Matrox Tweak as compared to MGATweak. (Does anyone notice that Matrox gave it Revision 1.12 which is the same as MGATweak.... )

                        MGATweak will still be an ultimate overclocking utility for most of the Matrox users, as it supports Matrox boards right back to the old trusty Millenium. Well, MGATweak can be a bit difficult to use for conventional users as it introduces quite a number of techno-jargons. So I think these people will have a good alternative rather than Powerstrip.

                        I don't know whether Matrox will include WinNT supports in later revision of Matrox Tweak. It should not be difficult for them to do so. For MGATweak, there will sure be WinNT version.

                          What we have with Matrox Tweak is pretty much all we are going to get I think. It's a basic easy to use overclocker, big pat on the back for Matrox but for the hard core users there is only one thing to use and that's MGA Tweak, simply changing the SGRAM optimisations without any overclocking produces a speed boost

                            Ant,

                            On your memory optimizations, after fast you list "1 1 1.4 1.4" but there's a digit missing. There should be on more whole number for "Minimum Block Write to Precharge Delay". Is it also 1? Also, what to you set your duty cycle stuff to?
