Nightshade, as he said, we have paid good money for a SSE/3DN prosessor. Now, surely you understand it's impossible to make such a different within that timeframe (one week?!) without exploiting the simds in a CPU. You will get boost from such a MiniGL since it's optimized for each game. See? Optimized. Of course, if it optimizes itself for the simd (3dnow is also simds) instructions found in the AMD and P3 cpu's, that would give an additional boost.

I certanly hope they do this in win2k too, when it get's released, that is

Kruzin, I get the feeling people don't know about the blood oath you've sworn to Matrox and that you're privy to some information we're not privy to. In which case, they may interpret some posts as gratuitous cheerleading as opposed to reporting (with a little bit of cheerleading thrown in).

I'm a little puzzled about some of the negative reactions. Matrox has been has been almost shockingly responsive to user demands, and I'm not quite sure how much more they can do.

One by one, issues are being addressed, many of them brought up here, and it is suspiciously looking like corporate policy to keep an ear to the Internet tracks and respond. (The big exception is NT, and I suspect we'll see some improvement there eventually.)

*We* asked for some additional tools, and within a few short weeks we got them. We asked for the beta ICD and *a week* later we got it. Two bug fix updates were released in rapid succession. And now, a "TurboGL" which promises the speed increases everyone has been clamoring for. Does Diamond behave like this? Does Creative?

It's been quite a month, and I'm not sure how longer we can expect this to go on. My mom didn't cater to me like this.

I don't see them as being responsive at all. I couldn't care less about QuakeX performance. I need NT opengl performance the card been out for months. Why isn't it fixed yet? Do you mean to say that all the work they said they were doing on the g200 icd isn't able to be ported to the g400 or were they just blowing smoke, up you know where, all that time?

Once a fully unbuggy implementation of the OpenGL ICD will be ready there shouldn't be a problem to translate it to other cards... the hard part is to write the openGL implementation itself...

We've always known that Matrox is the best.
Look, I know you think the world of me, that's understandable, you're only human, but it's not nice to call somebody "Vain"!

I think cpu specific drivers as idea is cool, as long as it really does get around to more cpus than the PIII and K7. If I had the source to the drivers and wanted more speed, that's what I'd do, compile it for my paticular cpu. Of course the real speed increases will probably be unrelated to cpu differences, more general code optimization.

Lot of stuff from Matrox lately, nice to see it, not sure it will help with the G256 menace though. With the delay of the V4, NVIDIA is going to soak up a lot of sales and make T&L a much stronger requirement for upgrading. Sooner than would happen with competition unrelated to T&L. Drag.

Talking of T&L, anyone remember that tree demo from nvidia which showed how great the gforce is? Well, with the old ICD, the G400 really struggled. Anyone who tried will agree with that. But, with this new ICD, although not properly supported (flashing textures) it's running at not that far off the geforce's speed!

Then again, the tree demo even works quite well with the current NT4 ICD.
