I really think a great deal of the performance boost in this TurboGL is due to SSE/3DNow! optimizations so I wouldn't expect a much faster option for the P2/Celeron users then the beta ICD.

I think it's great that at last they are taking advantage of new technology... using these extention is there only way to get close to t&l cards.

At last all of those who claimed that upgrading to a P3 is stupid will see the power of SSE

It will be interesting to see which extention is better 3DNow! or SSE... When are we getting this TurboGL ???
Good morning and in case I don't see good afternoon, good evening and good night !

      They are ignoring nobody.
They are just releasing the one that is ready first.
Read this slowly...I don't want to have to say it again...
SUPPORT FOR OTHER PROCESSORS WILL FOLLOW
      Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

        rickn,

A miniGL is an ICD that sits in the supported game's folder. It contains the optimizations and coding necessary to run the game without having to go through any more software. Your argument about triangle setup holds no water.
Of course SSE and 3DNow! are going to be faster, that is what they are designed to do.

Kruzin: it says nothing about adding support for other processors.

You should learn to read Ellie. The page Ant put up says nothing about adding support. How many years are we suppose to wait for that

              Hey Listen Rick,

There are allot of people including myself
              with a P2.
My point is Matrox are showing their dedication to further enhance these drivers, I have no problems waiting

I don't care if Ant's review doesn't mention adding support. I know they will.

If you chose not to beleive that, fine. I get my info direct from Matrox. I have the MiniGL. I know what I am talking about. You read one article. You are next to clueless on this topic.

Well I am an NT user and I won't even be
able to see this new speed improvement.

And the latest opengl icd for NT is
flaky as well with random flickering
in certain parts of quake II, still
haven't found anyone that has this problem
                  yet,

Well, it looks like Matrox is finally going to do to their OGL drivers what I've heard Nvidia has been doing all along. I have heard that the Nvidia OGL drivers are written is such a way that it detects what game you are trying to run and runs a specialized subroutine optimized for that game. Maybe that is why when they first came out with their OGL drivers they were not all that good then all of a sudden they got very good. Either way at least Matrox is willing to be up front about it.

As I said, this is what I have heard.

I read this discussion and I just don't get this.
The guy that's pointing out it is only due to 3dnow and SSE optimizations that this minigl gets the boost... It's possible yeah but why is it not working on K6-x then?

On the side note, both TNT2 and V3 OpenGL drivers are ALSO SIMD optimised so I don't really see why people should complain because a G400 needs SIMD to get to same performance levels as those two.

YES YES YES ..turbo gl !

I knew buying a PIII would someday pay off !!
For all you tnt2ultra owners that can get 37 fps in 32 bit q3 (1024*768..maximum detail ): your END has come as with my g400max i will get 50 fps !! (bilinear)
That is the number they get in 16 bit !!

I think it is a very good idea to write little opengl drivers for each cool/significant game that comes out !!!
So you will always get the best out of the HW !

I felt like these guys at one time, yea innovation in the computer industry leaves you standing still. Right after buying hardware you are "oldhat". Its a shame that this is the way it is. In 1997 the processor broke 200mhz. and now we are looking at 1000+ in a few weeks... Games keep getting more and more demanding. And if you think you are SAFE you are wrong! Its a bitch of a hobbie. Try and not cry like a bunch of kids that just got their systems. Get use to it!

Hey, you guys remember the last OGL? the one with the 5.21 drivers? That one should too have had a 20-40% increase. Not that it didn't but, hey, this time you are prepared that you might need to tweak a little, ya hear?!

Anyway, this is good work and we now know bitchi'n work. Just let'em know our needs. So, bitch after me: WE WANT our beta win2k drivers like the tnt2 users!

                            heeeheehee ¦ )

                            PS. Can you say q3+sse+smp?

So what is Matrox supposed to do.... build the Turbo for the obsolete and out of production P2 core (same as Celeron) or for the P3 - Athlon and SSE..... It's a no brainer. Besides, the Celeron will be getting SSE later this year or early next year.

                              I hate whiners.

                                Hello,
For all those who are NOT happy then (dare I say it...), go and d/l Creative Labs stand alone 'minigl' drivers for their voodoo2 line of products.
Not sure if it works on everyones system (maybe you have to have CL V2 drivers preinstalled? dunno) but you can read my post to Kruzin at :http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001189.html
                                Hope this helps your anxiety.
                                Frank.
