AHA! Ice storm got the wrong computer!!!!

*Genom mocks Icestrom's newbie like knowledge"

Muahahahahah, thanks, just made my day. Sad as that may seem. But seriously, C64 had a Light blue border/Dark Blue backgroud when booted. And the bootup process was pretty close to nil as it only loaded 30K of basic off a ROM, leaving the infamous 32,564 BYTES FREE message

Well, I think it was 32,564 I could be wrong.

AND it rocked your sox boy!
A computer is like sex. Your never 100% sure what your doing but when all goes well, it feels REAL good.

Ami, from another thread: *yeah, I have 14 fans.* (edited a bit )

Who besides Holly, Steve and me are the other 11 then???

      IceStorm: That's because the C64 looks gorgeous on a big-screen TV !!!!

Good heavens. We actually had someone threaten to return their board because the stupid drivers haven't been released before the close of business on the announced release date.

I think people like this should be encouraged to return their boards and never darken these forums again. (Unless, of course, the poster was being sarcastic.)

Soon these people will be sneezing on their monitors and blaming Matrox for all the little dots on on their screen.

I'm convinced this is a potty training issue.

For where I lived, everyone had Atari's. C64's were very rare.

All my games were for the Atari, and if you think about it, they weren't all that different until Atari management died in the mid 80's.

I honestly prefer the architecture and display of the Atari 8-bit and the Amiga (designed by the same person, Jay Miner, rest his soul) over the Commodore 64 or the Apple IIe (or Sinclar, or TI99/4a, etc, etc). It was more elegant than any of those contenders. Miner did it right.

Amazing, after all these years the "This computer is/was better because I own/owned one" discussion is still going on.

And C64 basic rom is only 8k, not 30. It was just places at a low memory address, causing the limited memory, for basic programs that is, in assembly you had 62k free.

C64 may have had a ugly boot-up screen, but the in game graphics and the sound (SID!!!) knocked the socks off any atari of that day.

              Enough said.

I didn't say the Atari was BETTER than the C64, I said _I_ prefered it over the C64, _I_ think the C64 had crappy graphics, and _I_ still do. :-)

If you like your C64's, then fine - _you_ like them. As for me, I'd rather us my Atari emulator than futz with a C64 emulator that _I_ still find ugly-looking.

There is no such thing as a "best" or "better" computer, for a computer's sake. You just choose what fits your needs best.

And before you go back and look, the only thing I said with the word "better" in it was that an Atari 800 with a 1050 drive was better than any C64 drive. What I forgot was that there were other drives than the 1541. Sorry about that.

Well _YOU_ are WRONG about the graphics! The C64 had a better GFX chip than the Atari. The Emulator may look bad, but that doesnt mean the games looks bad! The look better. Good sound is a important thing in a computer, something Atari often forgot! Atari XL, Atari ST(FM), crappy sound compared to the Amiga (Fixed in the STE)

I just want to set the record straight. You may like the Atari better, but dont go around stating things that aren't true.
