Uninstall the 5.30 drivers properly ( go to the matrox site for more information).
Install the via drivers ( bus master, agp drivers etc..)
    Reinstall the 5.30 drivers

nope, did the same thing, I just tried using the old d3d wrapper and no difference, I've also tried with dx6.1 and then dx7, I forgot how much fun these early mvp3 boards were

you may know this already...but with the VA503+ you usually must disable the read-around write cache setting in the bios. Also, running the board at 2x AGP can be a problem.

hmmm, well already had "read" and "write" disabled, reflashed both the vid and mobo bios's just to make sure and still crashes when quake2 started in ogl, it will run in soft but that sucks as bad as a brand new commodore64
does anyone here have these two running together? i.e. g200 & va-503+
                thanks, jim

would that be the Via or Matrox bus mastering?

Why use via patches with W98SE? HD performance better [for me] with Ms
drivers + DMA on. Have same problem
with 503+, G200 Mill SGRAM, and Powerdesk
5.x; but via drivers weird stuff -
                      gave me a 2nd [reported]"SCSI host adaptor"!
                      Disabling bus-mastering seems a bit
                      drastic.

                        Durango,

                        Follow these instructions exactly:

Download the new G200 drivers (which you have already =) ), download the 4in1 driver pack from Via, download the uninstall utility from Matrox, run the uninstall utility, reboot switch to standard Vga adapter and reboot, install the 4in1 driver pack in NORMAL mode, reboot and go into your bios and disable "read around write" save settings and exit, boot into windows and run the setup for PD 5.3, reboot and you should be up to speed.

                        Rags

This has worked with EVERY G200/503+ combo I have built(a bunch!).

Okay, then you will need to disable "Write cache pipeline". I have seen 2 boards that needed this disabled as well. If that doesn't work, let me know, I have some more ideas.
